Saints Speak from the Principal - 2/4/2021 - Safety Reminders and CSW Fun!

Dear Parents,

The students are having a great Catholic Schools Week! Every day has been something different and fun. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this week so special – the Teacher Committee that planned the activities, ASPA for their generous gifts and goodies and all of the Faculty and Staff that have helped every fun event happen. This has truly been a week to celebrate ASCA!

Valentines' Day

Valentines' Day is just over a week away. Mrs. Fuller has worked with the DuPage County Health Dept to come up with a plan to safely celebrate this special day. Students in Grs. Pre- Gr. 5 will be able to share Valentines with their school friends.  These will be passed out and put into a zip lock bag - supplied by ASPA - on Thursday, Feb. 11 or Friday, Feb. 12 in the classrooms. The bags will go home with the students on Friday, Feb. 12.

We ask that you please set these aside for 48 hours to comply with safety protocols. On Sunday, Feb. 14 your child can open his/her Valentine Cards at home. Candy cannot be passed out unless it is taped to the Valentine Card that will be sitting in the zip lock bag for 48 hours. Please look for specific directions from your child’s homeroom teacher. ASPA is also supplying a “party” for the students in Grs. Pre – Gr. 5 similar to what was done at Christmas. Thank you for your understanding and support on these safety procedures.

February 12  Half-Day

Friday, Feb. 12th is a half-day of school for the students.   Preschool students will be dismissed at 11:00 am from Door #1. K-8 Students will be dismissed at 11:30 am from their typical exit door. Please be sure that your child is picked up on time that day. Students will not eat lunch in school.

Safety Reminders

While there have been some changes and challenges on our campus with respect to the snowy weather and the return of North Central College student vehicles to our parking lot, we have been working together to keep our drop off and pick up safe, as well as reasonable with respect to time.

As a reminder, both lanes of traffic exiting the campus between the hours of 7:30 am – 8 am, as well as 3:15 – 3:45 pm must turn right out of our main entrance.   There are no left turns permitted during these times.    We have received reports of near accidents when left turns have been attempted during ‘right turn only’ times.   Please keep our students and school families, as well as the greater Naperville community safe by adhering to this school policy that has been designed with safety first.

Also, with the return of the North Central College students, we have lost an additional lane to ‘stack’ cars that are waiting to proceed to Door 7 at dismissal. So that the Door 7 lines of waiting cars do not over flow onto Aurora Avenue, or block cars that are trying to line up for Door 1 dismissal, we have opened up a New Lane (click here for map), and are asking cars that would begin to overflow to make a left turn upon entering the campus, and follow the lane down to the New Merge Point.   We ask that the cars that are waiting in the main aisle allow these few overflow cars to safely merge into the main aisle once the line starts to move.

Over the past week, you may have seen Mrs. Bajek sending a few cars down this new lane, and talking to the cars in the main aisle about allowing these cars to merge. Please be aware of this new lane that is now open, and be sure to use it if you find the lane backing up onto Aurora Avenue.

Cold Weather

The very cold weather is going to be here over the weekend and will extend into next week. We will do our best to get students out of the building and into their cars as quickly and safely as possible. Please make sure your child is dressed to wait outside for those few minutes after school – coat, hat, gloves, scarf, etc.

Travel Precautions

You may be planning to travel over the long weekend of Feb. 12-15.  If you are traveling and seeing people outside of your current “pod”, please be very aware of all safety protocols.  Please click here for the Travel Precautions that are recommended by the CDC. When you return, please be extra vigilant in monitoring yourself and your child/ren for any possible sign of illness (fever, runny nose, cough, upset stomach, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, etc).  If you see anything unusual, please keep your child home and seek medical attention.

We can keep everyone safe if we all work together!

God Bless,

Mrs. Cyndi Collins
