Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 4/10/2025 - There Are Always Opportunities to Share Christ With Others

Our saint this week is St. John Bosco, one of the patron saints of schoolchildren. St. John Bosco was very devout and was called to the priesthood at a young age. One thing that made him memorable to others was his ability to put on a show. As a child, he saw a magician doing tricks and was in awe. As an adult, he learned that he could do magic tricks or put on a performance of some sort himself, and then once he had people’s attention he could teach them about God. As educators, we use this “trick” often – get students’ attention with something that interests or amuses them, then teach the material for the day. St. John Bosco took it a step further, reminding us all that there are always opportunities to share Christ with others, even at times we may least expect it!

Reminder: $250 Tuition Payment Due April 18th

As a reminder, if your family is returning to ASCA next year, you have been charged $250 in FACTS, which will be credited to next year’s 2025-2026 tuition. This payment is due Friday, April 18th to secure your student's spot for next year; please log into your FACTS account to ensure payment is made on time. If your plans have changed for next year, please notify us no later than Tuesday of next week so we have time to make the appropriate adjustments in FACTS.

Literacy Activities this Week

We have had so much fun celebrating our love of reading this week! Students are enjoying purchasing new books for home at the Scholastic Book Fair. Last call for Book Fair shopping will be tomorrow morning immediately after Mass.

It was great to see so many of you at Literacy Night! We hope you enjoyed the fun activities planned by our amazing teachers.

Yesterday, author/illustrator Laura Smetana visited ASCA and spent time with our Kindergarten-5th grade students! She talked to them about the writing and illustrating process and even had a special workshop lunch with a small group of students. Thank you to our library team (Mrs. Chernick, Mrs. Galise, Ms. Sipll) and ASPA for making this visit possible. I’ve attached a few pictures of the fun!

April Virtue

Update on Sale of Field

As shared previously, the Diocese of Joliet has entered into an agreement to sell the field located to the east of our school building (between ASCA and Meson Sabika). The proposal is for Charleston Builders to build cottage homes on the land. This sale would be beneficial to ASCA; the field is rarely used by our students, and we have other green space available on the west side of campus and within our recess pad. The revenue from the sale of the field would also help alleviate the debt the school carries from the purchase of the building 20 years ago and provide us with financial stability for the future.

On March 19th, Naperville’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved rezoning this land. The next step is for the proposal to go before the city council on April 15th. We will continue to update you on the sale’s progress.
