Martin Luther King (MLK) Day of Service - Monday, January 17, 2022
Each year on MLK Day, ASCA students, staff and their families honor Dr. King's life and legacy through various acts of service. School is not in session on MLK day. Instead, students are asked to perform an act of service.
Students will be asked to fill out a reflection form on the service they've completed. Reflection forms will be provided by your teacher, and should be submitted to your homeroom teacher by the deadline on the form.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
ASPA's Community Outreach Committee is pleased to offer multiple options for service activities. We hope that you will all have fun while helping others and getting to know members of our ASCA family!
Please keep in mind, you are not limited to these activities; feel free to create and complete your own (Covid-safe) act of service in your home or neighborhood. For example, you may choose to help a neighbor with chores or shovel their snow, write a letter to a senior citizen or active-duty military personnel, and/or volunteer with your family at an organization close to your heart. The community service activity can be completed any time during the month of January to allow families to complete community service opportunities in a way that works for them. We encourage you to find an activity that matches your passion and participate wholeheartedly.
Remember that a MLK Day of Service Reflection Form must be completed and turned in by the deadline, for your student to receive attendance credit for this day.
