Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 5/8/2025 - Celebrating Pope Leo XIV
What an exciting afternoon it has been for our Catholic Church! Pope Leo XIV (Robert Prevost) was elected just as our lunch/recess period was ending. Our students were able to watch live coverage from the Vatican, and in the junior high the students even had the benefit of Sr. Maria translating for them! I attached a few pictures of students watching the papal announcement in their classes. This is such an incredible moment in our Church history, and it was extra exciting for the students to hear that he is from Chicago! We will continue to pray for Pope Leo XIV, that his leadership brings peace and unity to the Church and the world.
Our saint this week is St. John Baptist de la Salle, the patron saint of teachers! St. John dedicated his life to education. His parents passed away when he was only 20 years old, and he was then responsible for educating his six younger siblings. He continued his career as an educator, and then went on to help train other Catholic school educators and establish the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious order focused on teaching in Catholic schools and making it possible for poor children to attend. As we remember the life of St. John Baptist de la Salle, we take a moment to recognize the many amazing teachers in each of our own lives who helped form us. Take some time today to pray for all teachers who serve children here at ASCA and throughout the world each day.
Thank you!
Thank you to each and every one of you for helping make Teacher Appreciation Week special for our faculty! Thank you to ASPA for providing lunch, treats, and duty coverage, and thanks to our room parents and all parents who contributed to the generous gifts the teachers have received. We have all felt loved and appreciated this week!
