Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 9/11/2025 - The Holy Habit of Faithfulness
This week’s saint is St. Joseph, the father of Jesus here on earth. As students learn more about St. Joseph, they will also be discussing the holy habit of faithfulness. We are all familiar with the story of the angel Gabriel coming to Joseph. Gabriel explains that his betrothed, Mary, is going to have a baby by the Holy Spirit, and that baby will be the Son of God. Have you ever taken time to step back and think about this and the tremendous faithfulness Joseph displayed after Gabriel’s visit? Despite how shocking this information must have been, he trusted in the Lord, stayed committed to Mary, and helped raise baby Jesus. Wow!
While most of us don’t have angels visiting us, we are still being called to stay faithful to our Lord. This faithfulness can be challenging, especially when we see so much hate in our world. Today we remember all those lost in the tragic events of 9/11 twenty-four years ago, as well as the innocent lives lost in our own country and around the world in recent acts of violence. There are far too many stories of this filling our news each day. We continue to pray, to stay faithful to our Lord, and to ask for His guidance for each of us so we can spread love in our world rather than hate.
Early Release Reminder
Next Wednesday, September 17th, is our first 1:00pm dismissal day of the year. The faculty and staff use these afternoons for professional development, student data analysis, curriculum planning, and important team meetings. I know early dismissal can be inconvenient, but we appreciate your understanding so our faculty can work together and continue to improve our school and our instructional practices.
Please make sure your child knows their dismissal plan at 1pm, especially if it is different from the norm. There is no bus service home on early release days, and after care is only available until 4pm.
Now is also a great time to double check that you have all six early release days marked on your calendar: 9/17, 10/29, 12/3, 2/4, 3/18, and 5/13. Thank you!
Fun Run
Our annual Fun Run is quickly approaching! Mark your calendars for the Fun Run on Friday, September 26th. We will kick off the event and fundraising next Wednesday, so look for an email with more information that morning. At this time we are still looking for volunteers to assist with prize distribution. Click here to sign up to help, and thank you in advance!
Safety Drills
This week we conducted our first fire drill of the year. The students did a great job following directions and exiting the building quickly and quietly. We will conduct another fire drill later this month and then do our third required drill of the year in early October, with the Naperville Fire Department present.
On Wednesday, September 24, we will be conducting our annual law enforcement lockdown drill. The Naperville Police Department will be on site that day to conduct the drill with us. When we do this drill, we do let the students know that it is just practice and there is no immediate threat or danger. The classroom teachers also use age-appropriate language with their students about the drill, as the same message for this type of event cannot be used for our 3-year-olds and our 8th graders. If you have any questions about this drill, please contact me or your child's classroom teacher.
We will conduct our tornado drill in early spring, so it is fresh in students’ minds during the season when tornados are more likely. We will also be scheduling our bus evacuation drill later in the year, in coordination with District 203 and Sunrise Bus Company.
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
Thank you for your continued attention to safety on campus, especially during arrival and dismissal. We appreciate you following our procedures so everyone can enter and exit campus safely and efficiently. I was contacted by an ASCA neighbor who expressed concern about how our school parents are driving through the neighborhoods surrounding school after dropping off their children at ASCA. When cutting through local neighborhoods on your way home or to work, please drive with the same attention to safety that you do in your own neighborhood when your children are playing outside. Follow the speed limit, stop fully at stop signs, and look out for pedestrians who may be walking to school or waiting for the bus. Thank you for helping us be good neighbors!
Trivia Night
ASCA is excited to host Trivia Night on Friday, September 26th! We are looking forward to a fun night. Click here to reserve your table today!
