Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 1/29/2026 - Catholic Schools Week Celebration
We are having a great time this week celebrating Catholic Schools Week with themed outfits, special assemblies, and lots of treats. Thank you, parents, for choosing to send your children to All Saints Catholic Academy. The teachers and I are blessed to partner with you in your child’s educational journey. We know you make sacrifices to provide a Catholic education for your children, and we are grateful to have each one of you as a part of our school community. Thank you as well to ASPA and especially to Bethany Davis for helping ensure this week is a special one for our students and staff! Despite the very cold weather, the week has been filled with warmth as we celebrate our amazing Saints!
Our saint this week is St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patron saint of Catholic schools! St. Elizabeth Seton demonstrated courage, our holy habit this week, throughout her life. She advocated for women and children and planted the seeds for Catholic education in the United States. Without the work she did 200 years ago, Catholic schools like All Saints might not exist today! We are grateful for her example of courage and perseverance.
I-Ready Reports
Earlier this month, all K-8 students completed the second round of i-ready assessments in reading and math. Teachers have been using our Wednesday faculty meeting time to analyze the data and plan for adjustments they will make in the classroom to best support student learning. Family reports will be sent home early next week. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions about the results.
As a faculty, when we look at the results, we are always looking for ways we can continue to grow and improve. However, we also take time to celebrate the successes. The teachers and students are working hard in the classroom every day, and I want to share just a few of the successes we celebrated at yesterday’s faculty meeting:
- In Kindergarten, students’ reading scores increased by an average of 40 points!
- In 2nd grade, 96% of students performed above the 50th percentile in math! (this means 96% of these students are performing above average nationally)
- In 3rd grade, half of the students already reached their typical annual growth, and we’re only halfway through the school year!
- In 7th grade, 22 students had double-digit growth in both reading and math!
We are proud of our students for their accomplishments, grateful for our teachers, and look forward to continued celebrations in the spring!

Academic Awards
Today was our spelling bee! Congratulations to all our students on a job well done. It takes great courage to stand up in front of 100+ students and compete. We are proud of you! Congratulations especially to our top spellers:
Intermediate Spelling Bee:

- 2nd place: Ozzy Kuttiatoor
- 3rd place: Rory Gross
Junior High Spelling Bee:
- 1st place: Zachary Ling

The 7th graders did a wonderful job on their Science Fair presentations last Thursday. Congratulations especially to the eight students who were chosen to represent ASCA at the regional Science Fair:
- Andrew Chernick
- Graham Hinz
- Edison Leonard
- Zachary Ling
- Nico Martinez
- Owen Smith
- Tyler Tomeczko
- Stephen Van Dyke
I also wanted to share exciting news about one of our students. 8th grader James Budd was recently selected to compete as part of the Chicago ARML (American Regions Mathematics League) team. The ARML is a highly selective national mathematics competition. Being chosen is a huge accomplishment for any student, but especially for James as an 8th grader, as most members are in high school. Congratulations James, and best of luck!
Athletics Update
Next Friday, February 6th, we will celebrate all our 8th grade basketball student-athletes at the annual Blue Out! Games are at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm, and all ASCA families are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Saints! Students who attend will receive an Out of Uniform pass, too!
As a reminder, when you attend Blue Out, we expect you to be in the gym, cheering on our teams in a positive way. Parents, please stay to supervise your child(ren) throughout the games. Here is a resource on good sportsmanship that may help as you have conversations at home about how to cheer on our teams and how to win and lose with grace.
