Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 2/19/2026 - Let Love Be Our Lenten Focus
Our saint this week is St. Elizabeth of Hungary, and our holy habit is sacrifice. How fitting that we focus on sacrifice as we enter Lent together. At our Ash Wednesday Mass yesterday, Fr. Michael talked about sacrifice in his homily, and how sacrifice relates to love. He said that not all sacrifice is an act of love, but all love leads to sacrifice. As a child, I would give up chocolate every year for Lent. While this was certainly a sacrifice for me, it wasn’t an act of love. Reflecting on it now, I realize that my sacrifice did not help me grow closer to Jesus during that time. As we think about our Lenten promises this year, and we explain Lent and sacrifice to our children, may we focus on love. May God’s love for us, and our love for Him, be at the core of whatever Lenten promise or sacrifice we make so that this love can grow as we prepare for Easter.
Lent Resources
The Diocese of Joliet is hosting KNOWN, a rally for junior high students featuring music, fun, games, and prayer on Saturday, March 7th. All are invited to join! Click here for more information. You must register as part of a parish group. If your home parish is not participating, St. Thomas the Apostle is happy to register ASCA students as part of their group as well.
If you’re looking for a new way to pray this Lent, consider the Hallow app! Hallow is currently offering a 90-day free trial. They are also beginning a special Lent program called Lent Pray40 for adults, as well as a kids program or teen program to do as a family.
End of 2nd Trimester
Next Thursday is the last day of the second trimester, and report cards will be sent home the first week of March. Please be sure to check in on your child’s grades, make sure they have turned in any missing work, and that they are putting their best effort into their assignments these last few days so they can finish the trimester on a high note!
