Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 11/12/2020 - Thanksgiving and a Turkey Tango

On Monday, we kicked off our ASCA Turkey Tango, a fundraising dance event that concludes next week! Each day, the students have been watching a video in their classrooms to learn about a character trait by following the story of Sports City Now. Today we learned about courage through the story of Hunter, a boy with spina bifida who has not let his physical limitations stop him from becoming an adaptive surfer and an extreme wheelchair athlete! Hunter shows us that it’s okay to have fear, but courage is the ability to keep moving forward despite our fears.

Each night of the Turkey Tango, the students are presented with a new challenge related to gathering pledges and sharing information about the Turkey Tango with family and friends. They have done a GREAT JOB so far – our goal is to raise $18,000, and we are already 70% of the way there! Funds raised will support technology enhancements here at school, helping us continue to provide your children with the best instruction and virtual curricular materials available. The students have already earned tons of great rewards, as a school and as individual classes.

Make sure you keep an eye out tomorrow for Mr. Lindgren and his blue hair!

Through last night’s challenge, Ms. Catalano’s class and Mr. Calaway’s class each earned gift cards for their teachers!  The students are especially excited for tonight’s challenge…the class that gets the most new pledges tonight will earn an out of uniform day for the entire class! There will be one winner K-4th and one winner 5-8th. Also, in case you haven’t heard, if we reach our goal of $18,000, the class with the most overall pledges will get to silly-string me!

The ASCA Turkey Tango will conclude with our DANCE DAYS next week. On their dance day, students may wear spirit wear tops and out of uniform bottoms.

Dance schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, 11/18: Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th grades will be dancing
  • Thursday, 11/19: Preschool, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th grades will be dancing

Thank you to the many families who have already pledged their support of this important fundraiser. If you have not already done so, please consider making a pledge on funrun.com or sharing with friends and family on social media. No amount is too small, as every dollar brings us closer to our goal!

In this month of gratitude, we are kicking off an important campaign here at All Saints – Thankful Thursdays. We are blessed as a school community to have the support of so many wonderful individuals and organizations. Each day I give thanks for our students, our faculty and staff, and you, our parents, who help make our school the vibrant, joyful community that it is.

As part of our Thankful Thursday campaign, we are focusing on showing our gratitude for another important group – the businesses that have generously sponsored our school through the DDA and other events! These businesses have continually provided financial support of our school, and it’s important that we strive to do the same for them, especially during these difficult economic times.

Each week, we will acknowledge a different sponsor and ask you to consider supporting their business if you are able. This week, we’d like to show our gratitude for Innovative Orthodontics! Thank you to Innovative Orthodontics for being a Cornerstone Sponsor of ASCA and for their continued support of our school.

A Saints Speak this year would not be complete without a message related to COVID-19, the topic constantly in the news and on our minds. As always, thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe. Your efforts to wear masks, social distance, and follow recommended IDPH and CDC guidelines at home help keep each one of us safe here at school as well.

Our school continues to be COVID-free, and I assure you that I will update you immediately should that change. We plan to continue with in-person instruction (today is Day 56!), as we have no reason to believe it is unsafe for us to do so. We are continually monitoring the guidelines of the IDPH and the Diocese of Joliet; it is important to note that the new mitigations for our region do not apply to schools.

As we look forward to the Thanksgiving holiday and potential family gatherings, we ask all families to continue to take precautions, as you have over the last three months, to ensure we can safely continue in-person instruction and keep our students and staff healthy. Together We Can!

Lastly, thank you to our students who have performed Saintly Acts recently: Bianca B. (4th grade), Grace C. (3rd grade), Averie N. (3rd grade), Johann Y. (3rd grade), Taylor T. (3rd grade), Allie C. (5th grade), Joe C. (2nd grade), Hope L. (2nd grade), Rhett S. (4th grade), Rose T. (4th grade), Logan U. (4th grade), Bridget C. (4th grade), Noah G. (Kdg.), Sloan H. (Kdg.), Victoria K. Warm regards,

Margie Marshall
