Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 1/11/2024 - A Prayer for A New Year
In place of a message from Pope Francis, I wanted to share a New Year’s prayer with you:
Creator God,
The wheel is turning, a new year beginning, reminding us of our place in time.
We are part of this world you made, not as separate bits and pieces
but as part of the beautiful wholeness of your plan.
Our strength is from your mountains, our patience from your lakes,
And our love is from our brothers and sisters with whom we share this world.
As we face this year, help us in all we do
To better understand our part in your miracle of creation,
And to make this world a better place, now and forever.
Amen.
I know we are all anxiously monitoring the weather for tomorrow. If we close school, you will be notified via email and text as soon as the decision is made. I will make every effort to make a decision early to help with your planning!
MLK Day of Service
This Monday, January 15th, there is no school in recognition of Martin Luther King Day. As a reminder, at ASCA we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by performing acts of service. Families may participate in one of the ASCA-led events – card making and Feed My Starving Children – or may pursue an act of service on their own. Click here to sign up for one of the ASCA-organized events. Thank you to our Outreach team for providing these great opportunities to serve together! Click here for the MLK Day of Service reflection sheet to be completed by all students following their act of service.
Internet Safety Presentations
On Wednesday of next week, we are excited to have speakers from the Department of Homeland Security to share Project iGuardian with our students, an age-appropriate presentation on internet safety. Our 4th-8th grade students will attend these presentations, geared toward their specific age groups and intended to empower our children to be safe while online. We are considering a future presentation for parents on this topic as well.
Catholic Schools Week
Beginning Sunday, January 28th, we celebrate one of the most fun and exciting weeks of the school year – Catholic Schools Week!! The week begins with our Open House on Sunday, 1/28, from 1-3pm. This is a time for prospective families to see the school, meet teachers, and hear more about all ASCA has to offer. If you have a friend or relative who is considering a Catholic education, invite them to our Open House! As a bonus, if they decide to enroll, you’ll save money off your FFO for referring them. Families interested in signing up for a tour at Open House can do so here, or walk-ins are always welcome.
After Open House, Catholic Schools Week is full of fun activities, treats, and themed days for our students. Click here for the CSW schedule so you know what to expect and what your child should wear each day. Thank you to ASPA and our teachers for planning a great week to celebrate our Catholic school!
Please note that Tuesday of Catholic Schools Week, January 30th, is our CSW t-shirt day. It’s not too late to order your t-shirt – the deadline has been extended to 8am tomorrow! Click here to place your order! All proceeds from t-shirt sales benefit the Class of 2025’s class trip and legacy gift. Students must wear this shirt in order to be out of uniform that day.
January Virtue
Throughout the month of January, our students will spend time with their faith buddies learning about the virtue of fidelity. Click here for suggestions on how you can discuss and learn about this virtue at home as a family.
ASCA Golf Classic
Save the Date for the 3rd Annual ASCA Golf Classic on Monday, May 13th! Planning has begun, and we are looking for a few more individuals to join the committee. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact John Corradetti (jcorradetti@gmail.com) or Wayne Klein (wklein@kleinconstruction.com). Many hands make light work!
