Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 11/10/2022 - Truth is an Expression of God's Love for Us
Today’s quote from Pope Francis is about truth:
“Truth, according to the Christian faith, is God’s love for us in Jesus Christ. Therefore, truth is a relationship.”
I must admit, I’ve never thought about truth in this way. As a principal, especially when dealing with discipline situations, there are a lot of conversations that involve “the truth.” Sometimes, when I’m speaking with a student about something they said that hurt another, they might defend their words by telling me that what they said was true. Even as adults, I think we sometimes justify gossiping or sharing something hurtful because the statement is factually true. However, we often know that this factual truth does not make it true by Pope Francis's definition – it is not an expression of God’s love. As we question whether things are true moving forward, let’s challenge ourselves to not only evaluate their factual accuracy but also consider whether they demonstrate God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow is the last day of the trimester! Teachers are finalizing grades, and report cards will be sent home next Friday, November 18. On Monday students will begin the second trimester with a clean slate, academically and behaviorally, as we start fresh with tracking discipline infractions, forgotten Chromebooks, and grades. This is a great time for students to set individual goals and start the trimester off in a positive way!
This week is Vocations Awareness Week. Yesterday our primary and intermediate students had guest speakers to share their vocation stories. Tomorrow our junior high students will engage in round table discussions about vocations. Thank you to Sr. Maria for organizing these opportunities for our students!
While it’s hard to believe today, cold weather is on its way. Please remember to send your child dressed appropriately for the weather each day. We encourage warm coats, gloves, hats, and scarves on cold days and boots and snow pants when there is snow. Students will go outside for recess whenever possible.
Next week is Discover Catholic Schools Week! We’ll be inviting families to discover All Saints at our Open House – Wednesday, November 16, 6:00-7:30pm. If you have a neighbor, friend, or relative with a preschool or school-age child, invite them to attend our Open House and learn more about the many benefits of Catholic education at All Saints! Pre-registration through our website is encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome.
Did you know that you can support All Saints while shopping on Amazon, at no extra cost to you?! When you shop through Amazon Smile, 0.5% of qualifying purchases is donated back to the charity of your choice. You can still use your Amazon Prime account and get all the other benefits of Amazon! Last quarter, ASCA received $72.04 from Amazon Smile donations. If any of you shop on Amazon as often as I do, I’m sure we can grow that amount next quarter! To sign up:
- Go to smile.amazon.com
- Log in with your existing Amazon account
- Search for “All Saints Catholic Academy” and select the option for Joliet, IL – this is us! Our Tax ID is tied to the Diocese of Joliet, which is why it shows up this way.
- Start shopping! Each time you need something from Amazon, just remember to begin your shopping at smile.amazon.com to guarantee that our school benefits from your purchase.
The 2021-2022 Year End Financial Report and 2022-2023 Budget Report for ASCA are now available – click here. If you have any questions regarding this report, please contact Christopher Johanneson, Finance & Operations Committee Chair, at christopherjohanneson@gmail.com.
As we prepare for winter weather, we know that the holidays aren’t far behind! As we look forward to the holiday season, I wanted to make sure two things are on your radar:
- ASCA is selling poinsettia plants again this year! This is a completely optional fundraiser that benefits your FFO (Family Fundraising Obligation). Quantity is limited, so click here for more information on how to place your order.
- A letter went home yesterday from ASPA asking you to consider a monetary contribution to the ASCA Faculty & Staff. Here is the letter in case you missed the paper copy. Thank you in advance for your generous support of our fantastic teachers this Christmas!
