Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 11/17/2022 - You are Important to God

Today’s quote from Pope Francis is about the value of each one of us:

“All human persons – all of us – are important in God’s eyes.”

There isn’t much I can add to today’s quote, but what a valuable reminder this is! God made each and every one of us in His image and likeness. Regardless of what the world may tell us, regardless of what we may think, we are each important because we are important to Him, our creator.

First trimester report cards will be going home tomorrow. I enjoyed reviewing each of the report cards and seeing how much the students have accomplished in the first few months of school. As a reminder, the report card is yours to keep. Please return the signed envelope to your child’s homeroom teacher on Monday.

2nd-8th grade students will be receiving their IOWA and CogAT results along with the report card. All 2nd-8th grade students take the IOWA and CogAT assessments in September each year. We have not yet received data on Diocesan averages but will share this information with you as soon as it is available. Like any assessment, this is one piece of data about your child. These assessments, along with class performance, assist our teachers in measuring student progress and planning instruction for optimal learning and growth. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher with any questions about these assessment results.

In November, National Native American Heritage Month, our Person of the Month is St. Kateri TekakwithaClick here to watch a video from our 5th grade classes and learn a little more about St. Kateri.

When we return from Thanksgiving we will have begun a new liturgical season – Advent – and our hearts will be full as we await the celebration of the birth of Christ. Throughout Advent, we will be making a Jesse tree in the school lobby! Each class will have the opportunity to decorate and hang an ornament on the tree, and we will begin each day with a short scripture reading to teach the children about each of these symbols. Many households will have Advent calendars where children receive a small toy or chocolate each day. This year, consider adding to that routine by making a Jesse tree at home with your family as well! Click here for a letter from Sr. Maria, click here to access the printable ornaments, and click here for suggestions on how you can incorporate daily scripture and prayer into your Advent routine at home.

For December, we are switching gears a bit for our social-emotional learning lessons and our person of the month. Instead of targeting a new SEL skill or learning about a person from history, we are going to spend the month talking about ourselves! As today’s quote from Pope Francis reminds us, each human being is important to God, and He made us all exactly as He desired us to be. In December the students will talk about how God has made each of us unique and unrepeatable and what makes us special and important to Him.

Congratulations to the following students who earned Saintly Acts this week: Jackson P. (Kdg), Hudson C. (5th grade), Aubrey T. (6th grade), Will T. (3rd grade), Danny P. (6th grade), JP B. (7th grade), Derek L. (7th grade), Alex W. (8th grade), David H. (8th grade), and Cody G. (7th grade). Keep being saintly!

There will be no Saints Speak next week, as we are off Wednesday-Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. If your child will be absent on Monday or Tuesday, please don’t forget to inform our Welcome Desk at attendance@ascacademy.org. We wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

Warm regards,

Margie Marshall
