Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 10/20/2022 - They'll Know We are Christians by our Love
Take a few moments to reflect on today’s quote from Pope Francis:
“Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.”
I believe Pope Francis is reminding us that being a Christian, and in turn behaving in a Christ-like manner, is all about relationship. Practicing what we preach is important. Seeing Christ in others is at the heart of our Christian faith, for we believe that each and every person is made in the image and likeness of God. I’m reminded of the refrain of a song that I’ve heard frequently at Mass over the years: “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love.” Demonstrating this love for others, and in turn for God, marks us as Christians following the example of our Lord.
Virtues in Practice Program
As mentioned earlier this month, during the month of October our students are learning about the virtue of reverence with their faith buddies each Friday. Please click here for some suggested home projects if you would like to spend some time talking about reverence as a family. These projects are optional but a great way to learn about the virtues together at home!
Red Ribbon Week
Next week, both private and public schools throughout the country will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. At All Saints, Red Ribbon Week is a time for students to take a stand against bullying as we reinforce our theme of the year – kindness. Students will be reminded of what it means to be bully-free and how they can show kindness to EVERYONE at school, not just those they consider friends. We will have a few theme days during Red Ribbon Week as well:
- Monday, 10/24: Proud to be Bully Free, students may wear red
- Wednesday, 10/26: I am a jean-ius, I am Bully Free, students may wear jeans
- Friday, 10/28: Bullying is Old School – students who purchased the 80s themed Fun Fair shirt may dress down and wear the Fun Fair shirt. All other students should be in uniform.
Trunk or Treat, Fun Fair, & Halloween
We have several exciting school events coming up in the next few weeks!
Friday, October 28th is Trunk or Treat AND the Fun Fair! Click here to purchase your Fun Fair tickets, and click here to sign up to have a car at Trunk or Treat. We look forward to seeing you on October 28th!
Halloween is Monday, October 31st. Parents are welcome to join us for a Costume Parade at 2pm on the Recess Pad, weather permitting. Please see more details for each Academy below.
- Preschool: Students may come to school in their costumes. Parents are welcome to join us for a costume parade at 9:45 in the gym. Class parties will be at 10am.
- Primary Academy (K-2): Students may come to school in their costumes. Students will participate in the Costume Parade at 2pm, and class parties will be at 2:15pm.
- Intermediate Academy (3-5): Students may come to school in their costumes. Students will participate in the Costume Parade at 2pm, and class parties will be at 2:15pm.
- Junior High Academy (6-8): Student Council is planning a Halloween Dance for the afternoon! Costumes will not be worn in junior high, but students may be out of uniform if they wear Halloween colors (black and orange).
For all grade levels, costumes must be appropriate for school. Costumes should be comfortable enough that students can easily sit at a desk and use the bathroom; no weapons, makeup, or masks that cover their eyes. Students are not allowed to pass out candy to one another at school due to allergies. We encourage families to participate in Trunk or Treat and distribute candy there instead!
