Saints Speak – 5/9/2019 - That Busy Time of Year

Each day and weekend has been filled with activity here at All Saints.  This past Saturday and Sunday, the magical world of Dr. Seuss came to life in performances of Seussical Jr.  Our student actors and crew put together an amazing production over many weeks and months of hard work that began in January.  We have so many talented students at ASCA.  I could feel the joy in each student’s performance.   Additionally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the many parents who supported our thespians behind the scenes to help make our spring musical so professional and enjoyable.  As Dr. Seuss himself told us, “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” I hope that you were able to catch one of the shows.

While I visited our Illinois capital last week, earlier this week, a few of our All Saints students traveled to Springfield for Tech 2019, a student showcase of how technology is used in the schools. Alex Isom, Judd Isom and Charlotte Danahy demonstrated coding with the Dash and Sphero robots. They also demonstrated the use of various OSMO kits that we have in our K-5 classrooms.  The students had an opportunity to meet our State Representative, Grant Wehrli, who was thoroughly impressed with their work.

In a few short weeks, we will be saying goodbye to the ASCA Class of 2019.  Yesterday morning, we celebrated these students at our 8th Grade Ribbon Mass, at which each 8th grade student was presented with a ribbon.  These ribbons are symbols of the hope that the entire school community has for their future success as they carry the values and spirit of All Saints Catholic Academy with them on their path to and through High School.    We hope that students will wear these ribbons with pride during these remaining days until they graduate from All Saints.

Tomorrow, Friday, May 10, our recess pad will be ‘the place to be’, as our students will be participating in our Run with the Saints Fun Run.  Students have enjoyed learning how to solve problems using character through the MindSpark Mystery Lab.  We have had a blast with All Star Austin and the fabulous Boosterthon team who have guided our students on this fantastic journey at ASCA.  We are so grateful to all of our parents and beyond who have generously supported this event.  We have been getting closer to our goal each day!  We hope that many of you will be able to join us at the Fun Run tomorrow to cheer our students on.

Students will be running as follows:

  • Pre K: 10:30 AM
  • K-5: 1:00 PM
  • 6-8: 2:00 PM

All this week, our ASCA staff has been celebrated during Teacher Appreciation Week.  From the beautiful and bountiful luncheons that have been provided by you and our SHPP Hospitality Committee each day, to all of the little things that you have done for your child’s teacher and our staff – we are all deeply thankful.  I would like to personally recognize my amazing staff.  They work long hours at a vocation that they truly love; because they love their students, your children.  It is not just a job.  It is a calling.  Thank you for acknowledging our ASCA teachers and staff who are so deserving of this appreciation.  It has been a lovely week.

Our preschoolers are having a Mother's Day Tea Celebration this morning.  We even spied two new baby goslings just today with our resident ASCA mama goose.  I wish all of our mothers and all of those very special women who are like mothers in our lives a most happy Mother's Day.

So, buckle up.  These next few weeks will be passing by too quickly.  Let’s enjoy what the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year has to offer.

The New SHPP

The new SHPP will be setting sail soon, and it will not be possible without YOU! There are exciting new changes to come in the 2019-2020 school year!  Some of these changes include:

  • less meetings-quarterly instead of monthly
  • an expanded executive board with 2 year terms
  • a new name and branding, and
  • better communication.

We have opportunities for every level of involvement.  This is the perfect time to get involved.  The new SHPP will be unveiled as the upcoming 2019-2020 school year approaches.

SHPP is currently looking for individuals to serve as board members, committee heads, and chairs. ALL ASCA parents and guardians – both current and new to the school for 2019-2020 - are invited to participate.  You may volunteer (nominate yourself) for ANY position or nominate another person you think would be a good fit.  Please click here for the nomination form.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2018, SHPP positions for the 2019-2020 school year will be selected and announced. Those nominated will be contacted prior to May 29th to discern their interest in the servant leader position.

If you have questions concerning the duties and responsibilities of the offices, please call Mrs. Santos at (630) 961-6125, or email SHPP at SHPP@ascacademy.orgAll nomination forms must be received at the ASCA front desk by 3:00 pm on Friday, May 24, 2019. Thank you again for your time and participation!  The parents and guardians who offer their time and talents to SHPP do make a huge impact on the All Saints school community, and what we are able to accomplish here at ASCA!
