Saints Speak - 12/13/2018 - It's Beginning to Look A Lot like Christmas

Last Friday night, we tested the emergency portion of our new notification system that we will be using in the event of a school closing or any other emergency.  School families should have received notification of the test around 8 pm on Friday, December 7 by email, phone AND text via the Nixle Everbridge network platform.

The contact information that was loaded into Nixle came from information in our SchoolSpeak data base.  While families are welcome to log into SchoolSpeak to update their contact information, if you did not receive an email, phone and/or text message, I ask that you please contact me at msantos@ascacademy.org so we can make any adjustments in the Nixel data base to ensure that you are included.

We plan to do an additional test after the Christmas break, so please let us know if there was any problem with the first test, or if you have made any email and/or phone changes since the first test.

Early in the new year, school families will have the opportunity to ‘opt in’ to future texts (no phone or email) for sports or for calendar reminders.

This past Wednesday was a pretty busy at All Saints.  In the morning, we celebrated a beautiful Marian Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at All Saints Catholic Academy.  This feast day is a very important religious and cultural holiday for Mexican Catholics, and Our Lady of Guadalupe is a powerful symbol of Mexican identity and faith.    Pope Pious XXII crowned Our Lady of Guadalupe “Empress of the Americas” in 1945, and she has long been recognized as the patron saint of Mexico.

Our liturgy included readings, petitions and prayers in both Spanish and in English, with joyful music in both languages as well.  I am so proud of diversity of our school.  It strengthens the fabric of our community and who All Saints is, which allows us to learn more about each other, and grow a mutual respect of the traditions and beliefs that make each one of us special.

I would like to especially thank Mr. Moore, our liturgy coordinator, our 7th grade students who shepherded this mass, Father Mark and Father Bill, Mrs. Blackman, our music teacher, the mass choir, and our Celebra tu Herencia group – all who helped to make this a lovely mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

In the evening, we came together for a joyous spirited program of Christmas music at our Christmas Concert that showcased the talents of our preschool through grade 5 students.  All of the boys and girls were beautifully dressed in festive clothing and colors.  I couldn’t help but smile.  I also thought of the movie Elf, and Buddy’s advice on Christmas cheer - “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”  I know that I am ready for the Christmas season now.  Thank you to Mrs. Blackman, our music teacher, Mrs. Bajek, our accompanist, and our other teachers and staff members, who created the program, and rehearsed and prepared our students so well.

The Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program

In the past week, we have sent both an e-blast as well as a flyer to school families to let you know about the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program.  Last year, the State of Illinois created a new way to fund scholarships for children who choose to attend Catholic schools through the “Invest in Kids Act.”

Under the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program and the “Invest in Kids Act”, individuals and corporations make donations to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO) that distribute scholarships to qualified students.

In this program, you can designate your contribution to support a student attending All Saints Catholic Academy, and receive a 75% credit on your state of Illinois tax liability.

Remember that a tax credit is a dollar for dollar reduction of your tax liability.  For example, if you donate $1,000 under the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program, you will receive a tax credit equal to 75% of your donation, or $750.

Yes, this is For Real.

Why pay money to the State of Illinois, when those monies can help a child at All Saints Catholic Academy.

If you would like more information on how to donate to the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program with STEP BY STEP Directions, please click here

If you are interested in donating for this current tax year, you have to jump on this ASAPIf you are looking to donate for the 2019 tax year, you have a bit more time to make your donation.    Thank you in advance for your investment in ASCA students.

2018-2019 ASCA Annual Fund Appeal

When all of us who love All Saints Catholic Academy – parents, teachers, administrators, Board members, alumni, friends - come together to work towards a common goal, great things can and will happen.  Annual Fund letters should soon be arriving in mailboxes; and we hope that you will consider participating in this year’s appeal

The cost of educating each student at All Saints is much greater than tuition covers.  We have not had a tuition increase at All Saints in three years.  Our administration and boards work very hard to be good stewards of the financial resources here at ASCA.

The Annual Fund campaign is essential in helping to fill the gap between income from tuition and operating expenses.  Each year, the Annual Fund Appeal helps to control tuition increases – making Catholic education more affordable to families in our community, and keeping All Saints competitive.

We are asking you to prayerfully consider contributing to this year’s appeal at whatever level you are comfortable giving.  No gift is too small.  Everyone’s help is needed!  We would love to share with every school family that 100% of all of our families were able to contribute.  So, please respond to this year’s appeal as generously as you are able.    Know that each and EVERY contribution is greatly appreciated!!!

Hesed House has informed us that they are in need of certain items for their clientele.  This is a voluntary drive, so participate, if you are able.  Items will be collected through tomorrow, Friday, December 14.

Do you know why All Saints host the DDA each year? While it is true that every private school has to fundraise to help cover the cost to educate its students to the very high standards we all enjoy at All Saints, the DDA is much more than just a fundraiser.  It is a celebration and a way for us to show and share our gratitude for the blessing of being a part of the All Saints community! The DDA is “Coming Home” to All Saints this year so we can truly appreciate all that our facilities, faculty and families mean to the future of All Saints. This event is all about your children and you and we need your help to make it an All Saints-worthy success!

The 2019 DDA “Coming Home” celebrates the All Saints community and will be a great night of food, music, festivity and fun while supporting our children’s home away from home – All Saints Catholic Academy!  Join us Saturday, February 23, 2019 6 pm - Midnight at ASCA!
