Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 2/17/2022 - Snow Day
It feels very strange to be home today with the calm weather we’re experiencing at the moment, but I see there is still afternoon snow in the forecast! It often feels like a guessing game trying to determine how accurate the weather reports will be, and we chose to follow the lead of many of our neighboring public and private schools and err on the side of caution. Thank you for your understanding, as I know it can be an inconvenience to have an unexpected day off. Hopefully you have enjoyed some extra time as a family today, which is always a blessing!
Many of you saw last night that we sent the notice of today’s closure via email AND text message. We will continue to use text messages for emergency notifications moving forward. To ensure you receive these messages, please make sure you have your mobile number and carrier entered in SchoolSpeak. To confirm, log in to your SchoolSpeak profile, click on your login name in the top right corner, then select “My Profile.” As you scroll you’ll see a spot for your Mobile number and Mobile Carrier. Don’t forget to scroll to the bottom and click “Update” to save the information you entered.
In less than two weeks, we will begin the Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday. We are collecting blessed palms to be burned prior to our Ash Wednesday school mass. If you have blessed palms at home from last year’s Palm Sunday, please send them to school in a CLOSED plastic bag. Thank you!
As we approach Lent, now is a good time to start thinking about what this season means and what it will mean in your life this year. As Christians we focus on 3 things in Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. As you plan for your own Lenten commitment, consider using this video to guide you. Fr. Mike Schmitz talks about approaching Lent with intentionality and selecting one thing in each of these areas. He suggests asking yourself how you can get closer to God (prayer), how you can purify your life (fasting), and how you can give back (almsgiving). You may discover an opportunity for a family Lenten focus as well!
Next week we welcome back Mrs. Kassl, who has been on maternity leave following the birth of her beautiful son! We are excited for Mrs. Kassl’s return to the 3-year-old preschool classroom and will be praying for her as she transitions back. We are also incredibly grateful to Mrs. Martinez, who stepped into the lead teacher role in Mrs. Kassl’s absence. Mrs. Martinez will be returning to the 4-year-old preschool classroom next week as the classroom assistant. Thank you, Mrs. Martinez, for your flexibility and willingness to help!
This afternoon some of our junior high students are competing in the Regional MATHCOUNTS contest. Due to our school closure, the students will be doing the competition completely online from home. We wish them the best of luck!
Our 2nd grade students submitted weather drawings to ABC 7’s Weather Sketchers Club. This morning at 5:30am, Isabella Russo’s drawing was featured on the show, and tomorrow at 5:30am you can tune in to see Gigi Gigante’s drawing. We are proud of these girls and hope more ASCA students will be chosen in the weeks to come!
Since we weren’t able to share our Saintly Acts this morning during announcements, as is our Thursday tradition, you can expect a long list of Saintly students next week!
Lastly, don't forget that tomorrow is a half day (11:30am dismissal), as we have faculty institute in the afternoon. There is no bus service and no after care tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of the day "off" and the upcoming long weekend. See you tomorrow!
Margie Marshall
