Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 12/2/2021 - Waiting in Advent
The Advent season is upon us! These next few weeks are full of excitement and energy as we prepare for the coming of Jesus on Christmas. We have lots to do to prepare for the holiday. I imagine you’ve been decorating, baking cookies, mailing Christmas cards, and shopping for presents. I encourage you, this Advent season, to also prepare your hearts for the coming of Christ. Consider making extra time for daily prayer, engaging with scripture, or pursuing a service opportunity this Advent. You may also with to explore these Advent resources from NCEA.
We use the symbol of light throughout Advent, which dovetails nicely with our “Shine Bright” theme this year. Each morning as a school community, we pray together, “May God Shine on me and through me.” During Advent our students will be leading weekly prayer for us over the PA in the morning, and in the classrooms they will be talking more about how they can be the light of Christ. This Advent season I encourage you to discuss with your child how they see God’s light in their lives and how they can be His light in the lives of others.
On Saturday our 8th grade students will take the High School Placement Test at one of our local Catholic high schools. Good luck, 8th graders! You are in our prayers on Saturday.
Kindergarten-5th grade parents, please make sure that you have our upcoming Christmas concert on your calendar! The concert will take place on Thursday, December 16th, at 6:30pm in the gym. Please note the earlier start time! Due to social distancing requirements, we can only invite two guests per family to attend in person. We will provide a livestream link for any other family members that want to watch from home. Look for an email coming soon with more details about the evening (when to arrive, what to wear, etc.).
Before Thanksgiving, we sent two teams of Junior High students to compete in the Marmion Academy Math Contest. The students did very well! Congratulations to 7th graders Alex Wold (2nd place) and William Shields (5th place) and to to 8th graders Luke Donovan (2nd place) and Nathan Gianan (5th place). Our teams did very well too; Team 1 earned 2nd place and Team 2 earned 4th place. Way to go, Saints!
We are still in need of Science Fair judges! Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, January 28th, 11:30-3:30. You do not need a science background to be a judge! Please consider volunteering your time to help support our 7th graders. Click here to volunteer, or contact Mrs. Detwiler (mdetwiler@ascacademy.org) with any questions.
Lastly, I’d like to recognize the students who recently earned Saintly Acts: Zayna A. (4th grade), William S. (7th grade), Musa K. (7th grade), Greyson M. (2nd grade), Katherine M.
