Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 12/12/2024 - Doing What God Is Calling Us To Do

This week’s saint is St. Juan Diego, whose Feast Day was Monday. Today we heard his story at our Mass as we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. If you aren’t familiar with St. Juan Diego, he lived in Mexico in the early 1500s. One morning, Mary appeared to him and asked him to go to the bishop and request that a church be built on Tepeyac Hill. He did as Mary asked, but the bishop didn’t take him seriously and asked for him to come back with proof that it was really Mary. Juan Diego went back, and Mary instructed him to climb the hill, where he found beautiful roses in bloom even though it was the middle of winter. He gathered the flowers in his tilma (cloak) and brought them to the bishop. When he opened his tilma to reveal the roses, there was also a beautiful image of Mary on the fabric of his tilma. The bishop now believed, and built the church on Tepeyac Hill.

Juan Diego’s faith is an inspiration to us all. Even though what Mary was asking him to do seemed outrageous, he didn’t question. May we all follow the example of St. Juan Diego, doing what God is calling us to do even when it seems difficult.

Thank you!

Yesterday after school, ASPA hosted our faculty and staff holiday party at Meson Sabika. It was great fun! The teachers and staff are so grateful for the opportunity to gather outside of the school building and celebrate the Christmas season. Thank you to ASPA, especially Hospitality Chair Vinita Ramnani, and all our parents for making this possible for our teachers and staff!

Upcoming Events

Next week is a busy one here at All Saints! See below for all the important “need to know” details!

  • Tuesday, 12/17/24: Out of Uniform for the Class of 2026 Fundraiser. If your child did not purchase the out of uniform package he/she may bring in $10 to be out of uniform today or should come to school in uniform; no other OOU passes may be used.
  • Wednesday, 12/18/24: Preschool & Kindergarten Christmas Concert 8:30am in the gym. Kindergarten students may wear Christmas colors/dress clothes in place of their uniform today for the concert. Parents and guests may enter at Door 1 starting at 8:15am. If you’re sticking around after dropping off your child, we kindly ask you to wait in your car until 8:15 to allow for a smooth arrival procedure for our students.
  • Wednesday, 12/18/24: 1st-5th grade Christmas Concert 6:00pm in the gym. Doors will open at 5:30pm; all students, parents, and guests should enter at Door 1, and students should be seated and ready to go by 5:45pm. Students should wear their Sunday best, and Christmas colors are encouraged. Please, no jeans or graphic tees. Students should find their place in the bleachers in the gym when they arrive. All students should leave their coats with their parents to help with a smooth dismissal at the end of the show.
  • Thursday, 12/19/24: Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest! Students may wear an “ugly” Christmas sweater or any shirt in Christmas colors today with out of uniform bottoms. Student Council will judge and present prizes for the “ugliest” sweater in each grade.
  • Friday, 12/20/24: We will have Mass this morning so all students should be in perfect uniform. After Mass, students will see their faith buddies and then have some time in their classrooms before class parties begin at 10:15am. All students will dismiss at 11:30am as we begin Christmas break. There will be no after care, no bus home, and no lunch on this day.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found table is growing once again! If you are missing any items, please check the table in the Door 1 vestibule before leaving for Christmas break. Any items left behind will be donated at that time.

Annual Appeal

It is so exciting to see the strong support for this year's Annual Appeal, as our total stands at $24,125 (80% of our goal). We can achieve and surpass that goal by the end of December! We are especially grateful for our current school families who are contributing to the appeal. The contest for the Family Ice Cream Social that will take place at ASCA on Tuesday, January 7 is very competitive, with Mrs. Porlier's class currently in the lead.  Senora Myers, Mrs. Lane, Mrs. Kozar and Mrs. Swanson’s classes are close behind. Remember that a gift of any amount will count toward your student's homeroom participation goal. You can check out the daily update of the top three homerooms on our electronic sign. And remember, more than one homeroom could win the ice cream social!

Diocesan News

The Catholic Schools Office will be offering another parent workshop on Thursday, January 23rd, at 6:00pm. The virtual workshop will focus on Executive Functioning for students of all ages. Click here to register!

Looking Ahead: Cultural Day

Our teacher Cultural & Diversity Committee is planning a cultural day for our students on Tuesday, February 11th. On that day students will be allowed to wear cultural dress and bring in items that represent their heritage. We will have a student-centered assembly focusing on the cultural differences that make us unique children of God. More information will be coming after the holidays!
