Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - What a Friend We Have in Jesus - 8/18/2022
Take a few moments today to pray with our message from Pope Francis:
“When Christ is your friend, you have joy, serenity, happiness.”
Last week, as we prepared our classrooms for the students’ return, we also took some time to prepare our hearts and minds with a staff retreat, led by Sr. Maria, our new Campus Minister, and Fr. Max, pastor of St. Margaret Mary. As part of his talk, Fr. Max shared some suggestions for us on how we can grow closer to Christ. I am reminded of those now as I think about my own “friendship” with Christ and how I can continue to foster that relationship. Perhaps his suggestions will help you as well as you build your friendship with Christ:
- Sacraments: attend Mass, receive Holy Communion, and go to confession
- Spend time with Scripture: Bible in a Year and Word on Fire are great resources
- Prayer: speak to God as if he were your best friend, remembering that “prayer is the safest place in the world”
We had a great first full day of school here at All Saints! The students loved eating lunch all together in the cafeteria and enjoying the beautiful weather at recess. We look forward to having our Kindergarten students join us tomorrow for their first full day of school, followed by our preschool friends on Monday!
Tomorrow is our first all-school Mass. This year all students will be attending mass in person! If you are available, please consider joining us. Mass is held every Friday at 8:15am; enter at Door 1 after 8am. All are welcome! This week’s Mass is led by our faculty, but beginning next week the students will be leading. Be sure to read your teachers’ newsletters so you know when your child is leading mass and can attend to join them in worship.
If you haven’t already done so, make sure you have Curriculum Night on your calendar! Curriculum Night for Kindergarten-5th grade will be Tuesday, August 30, beginning at 6:30pm. Curriculum Night for Preschool and 6th-8th grade will be Wednesday, August 31, also beginning at 6:30pm. Curriculum Nights are intended for the parents only, so please arrange for childcare if needed. All visitors should enter at Door 1 and proceed to the gym. We’ll begin with an introductory presentation, and then you will have the chance to visit your child(ren)’s classroom(s) for presentations from the teachers. For Kindergarten-5th grade, there will be two sessions so if you have two students in these grades you can attend both presentations. For junior high, you will follow the student’s schedule so you can meet all the teachers.
Beginning next week, your children might mention extra teachers helping out in their classrooms. Our Student Services Team (Mrs. Aloisio, Mrs. Carden, Mrs. Kujawa) will be offering push-in support during ELA to all students in the primary and intermediate academies. Push-in student support is considered to be best practice in the education field. The team will work alongside the main classroom teachers to support the learning of all students in reading, writing, and grammar. They will work with small groups, in the classroom, assisting with both advanced and struggling students so every child gets what they need. Mrs. Aloisio, Mrs. Carden, and Mrs. Kujawa will continue to provide pull-out support services and Junior High Student Skills class to those who qualify as well.
Parking Lot Reminders
I know you’re hearing a lot from me this week about dismissal, but thank you for your patience and understanding as we fine-tune our procedures and ensure the safe dismissal of all students. Please read these reminders:
- If you are picking up at Door 1, you must walk to the coned area to pick up your child. Students should not be walking through the parking lot unattended.
- If you are using the car line for Door 7, you should now have your name sign. Please place this in your window so it is visible to our staff. Remember to pull all the way up so more cars can fit on campus and use all three lanes when you first enter campus (including the overflow lane). Merge respectfully and carefully at the designated point.
- If you are changing your dismissal plan, changes can begin next week. Please notify your homeroom teacher.
- Be courteous and patient so we can all get home safely and efficiently!
ASCA Band will begin soon! Band is open to students in 4th-8th grade. Please click here for more information on the band program.
Looking to get involved? As the year gets underway, there will be many opportunities to volunteer. We hope you will choose one or more to contribute to our school community! So you’re ready to go when these opportunities arise, we recommend completing the volunteer requirements now.
