Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 2/1/2024 - Faith Opens a Window

Please take a few minutes in prayer with these words from Pope Francis:

“Faith opens a ‘window’ to the presence and working of the Spirit. It shows us that, like happiness, holiness is always tied to little gestures.”

Today’s message from Pope Francis reminds me of a more well-known quote from St. Mother Teresa: “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” So often in our lives, when we have a strong emotion, it is not in response to a big incident or major problem, but an accumulation of several little things over time. The same is true of our relationship with God and our quest for heaven; it is the little good deeds, quiet prayers, and small daily actions that accumulate and bring us closer to holiness. What a beautiful message this is, because these small actions are possible for all of us, each and every day!

Lent

Lent begins in less than two weeks! As we begin this holy season together, please plan to join us for Stations of the Cross on Wednesday, February 21st, at 6:30pm. Click here for more information on this family evening of prayer.

February Catholic Identity and Diversity focus

February is Black History Month. At ASCA we are focusing this month on making students aware of social justice and the importance of treating everyone fairly.  Our preschool-5th graders will use a video from PBS Kids, with teacher led discussion, to help them be aware of the topic of social justice.  The teacher will continue discussions about how we treat each other and that recognizing the differences helps us understand that each of us is different.

Our Junior High students are focusing on the topic of implicit bias, including doing self reflection on their own bias and the impact it has on others.  These lessons will take place in social studies class.

MAP testing

We are nearly finished with making up MAP assessments from last week, and teachers have begun to review the data to inform instruction. Reports will be going home next week. Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions about these reports.
