Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 1/16/2025 - Ask Questions and Seek Truth
We are very excited that the cold spell has broken, at least for a few days! We plan for the students to go outside for recess today and tomorrow. As a reminder, we take them outside whenever possible so they have the chance to burn off some energy. Our threshold for cold is a “feels like” temperature of 15 degrees, and we also take snow and ice on the recess pad into consideration. Please send your child prepared to go outside with a warm coat, gloves, hat, etc. Boots and snow pants are encouraged for the younger grades so they can play in the snow.
Our saint this week is St. Albert the Great, the patron saint of scientists. I picked St. Albert because our 7th graders are using this week to put the finishing touches on their Science Fair projects in preparation for the Fair next Thursday. St. Albert was known for his curiosity, honesty, and diligence. He was interested in a wide variety of subject areas. He asked questions and did research to educate himself, and then he shared what he learned with others.
As parents, we all know how curious and inquisitive young children can be, asking “why” repeatedly as they begin to take interest in the world around them. As we get older, we often lose that inquisitiveness and stop questioning things. St. Albert would encourage us to ask questions and seek truth so we can better understand this beautiful world God created for us!
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
Don’t forget that Monday is a day off from school and a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr! Consider one of our school-sponsored service events, or find a way to serve as a family on your own. Each act of service makes a difference to someone in need in our community!
Catholic Schools Week: January 26 – February 1
We are getting close to Catholic Schools Week, one of the most fun weeks of the year at All Saints! Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate all that makes our school special – our students, parents, faculty, supporters, and most important, our faith! The week will be full of themed days, dress down days, and fun events. Click here for a full schedule of what to expect for the week.
As you’ll see in the calendar, Thursday of that week is Catholic Schools Week T-shirt day! On this day, the only out of uniform option is the CSW t-shirt, available here until noon today. All proceeds benefit the Class of 2026. Get one for your child now!
On Sunday, we encourage you to attend Mass at your parish in your ASCA spirit wear or uniform to represent All Saints. We’ll be promoting our upcoming Open House at many of the Masses this weekend, and it is always great to have our students in the pews in their ASCA gear at the same time. Please send a picture of your child at Mass in their ASCA spirit wear or uniform to Mrs. Booker (abooker@ascacademy.org) to earn an Out of Uniform pass! (SES families, if you were there last weekend in your ASCA gear for Donut Sunday, let Mrs. Booker know and that counts for the OOU pass as well!)
On Sunday afternoon (January 26, 1-3pm), we’ll have an Open House here at school! We have limited spots available for next year, so if you have a friend or neighbor considering Catholic education, please encourage them to visit our Open House and learn more about ASCA. Families may sign up for tours here, and walk-ins are always welcome.
Classroom Updates: Shark Tank!
Shark Tank is back, filming its 11th season here at ASCA! As part of their social studies class, 8th grade students have created new products and prepared in-depth presentations for the “sharks” (ASCA faculty and supporters). The students are showing their creativity and presentation skills as they gain a basic understanding of managing a business.
Parish News
Did you know that St. Elizabeth Seton parish started a High School Teen Ministry group recently? The group is led by Deacon Matt, who actually will be joining us for our weekly Mass tomorrow! Deacon Matt has invited current 8th graders as well as all high schoolers to join; you do not need to be a member of SES Parish to participate. Their next meeting is Sunday, February 2nd, from 7:00-8:30pm. Stop by, or contact Deacon Matt at mattandalicianap@aol.com for more information!
MATHCOUNTS Competition
Before Christmas, our junior high students were invited to compete in the first round of the MATHCOUNTS contest. 21 students competed, and 12 will advance to represent ASCA in the Regional contest. Congratulations and good luck to James B., Aubrey C., Mary D., Gavin F., Jeffrey J., Abbie L., Lucas L., Cindy M., Sebastian M., Eain S., Nathaniel T., and Zac W.!
