Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 3/3/2022 - Hello March

Thank you to all who joined us for Ash Wednesday mass yesterday! It was nice to have such great mass attendance and participation as we begin our Lenten journey together. In class, students will be talking about their Lenten promises (prayer, fasting, and almsgiving) and sharing them on a footprint that will be displayed in the hallway in the coming weeks. The footprints will remind us to support one another as we walk together on this journey toward Christ.

On Tuesday, we began Women’s History Month. Throughout our country, March is set aside as a time to recognize the contributions of women throughout history. In our morning announcements throughout the month, we will be sharing some information about women who have been important to the Catholic Church and women whose faith has influenced their lives and careers. March’s Person of the Month is Dorothy Day. Dorothy Day was a journalist and activist well-known for founding the Catholic Worker newspaper. You might not know that she was also a Benedictine Oblate at St. Procopius Abbey in Lisle! At the end of the month a few of our classes will share what they have learned with us via Saints Speak.

There is an Illinois bill, House Bill 4126, that is advancing to the General Assembly for a vote soon and needs your support! This bill will modify the existing Tax Credit Scholarship program (administered through Empower Illinois) and provide two key improvements:

1.Prioritize students who are currently receiving a Tax Credit Scholarship so they are more likely to get a scholarship in the following year (assuming they still qualify)

2.Allow more families to participate by allowing for partial scholarships

This bill would benefit many families in our All Saints community, providing more continuity for parents and children receiving scholarships as well as the teachers and classmates who interact with them each day. Allowing partial scholarships will mean that more families can benefit, making excellent Catholic education at All Saints affordable for more people. Please consider contacting your local representative to voice your support of this bill. Click here for an easy way to contact your legislator!

Congratulations and thank you to these students who earned Saintly Acts this week: Matthew B. (4th grade), Charlotte M. (4th grade), Jack W. (3rd grade), Hope L. (3rd grade), Christian O. (5th grade), Lilly H. (5th grade), Luna T. (4th grade), and Sade A. (8th grade). Keep being Saintly!

Lastly, tomorrow is the last day to get your DDA tickets! Don’t miss out on your chance to join us for this great event. There are tons of great auction and raffle items, too, which can now be previewed on the DDA website! You can click here to get your tickets or preview items. We can't wait to see you on March 12th!

Enjoy the long weekend,

Margie Marshall
