Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 10/17/2024 - We Are God's Children

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.

This week’s saint is St. Teresa of Avila. As we learn about the saints each week, I use a book called 5 Minutes with the Saints: Spiritual Nourishment for Busy Teachers to share reflections with our faculty each week. In the reflection on St. Teresa, she is referred to as “a study in apparent contradictions…simultaneously radical and obedient.” The reflection then goes on to connect to the ministry of teaching, reminding us that “our self-giving must always both comfort and challenge the students entrusted to us.” I think this line is fitting for our role as parents as well. We are our children’s primary source of comfort, making sure they know that we love them unconditionally and think they are completely amazing. In many ways, they are our whole world. At the same time, we have the responsibility to challenge them, pushing them each day to be a little kinder, a little smarter, a little more mature, a little better at whatever they are pursuing. While knowing how much they are loved, at home and at school, they feel safe to continue trying to be their best self.

As adults, I think we sometimes forget that we are God’s children, and he is our father. He can (and should) be our primary source of comfort, for He loves us unconditionally. He also continually challenges us to do a little better each day. Today, may we remember that regardless of age, we are always children of God. His love for us does not change, nor does his desire to help guide us to become the best versions of ourselves.

Classroom highlights

Our Kindergarten-5th grade students have adopted a new science program this year, Inspire Science. The students and teachers are enjoying the program’s combination of reading/writing and hands-on explorations. Recently our 4th graders learned about energy transfer via toy car collisions. Our 5th graders conducted experiments testing various materials for the properties of magnetism, conductivity, and reflectivity. These hands-on activities help solidify understanding of complex concepts and support the reading and writing students do on the topic. Some pictures are attached!

All Saints Day

Friday, November 1st, we celebrate our Feast Day – All Saints Day! Please join us for Mass at 8:15am as we gather in prayer, remembering the saints who have gone before us and led by their example of love.

November 1st is also our 4th Annual Day of Giving! On our Feast Day we celebrate all that makes ASCA special – the students, teachers, parents, alumni, and friends of All Saints who support our mission of creating saints and scholars. On this year’s Day of Giving, help us meet our $15,000 goal. Funds raised on the Day of Giving help us maintain and continue to improve our facilities, academic offerings, and school culture. We’ll be sharing more information next week about the Day of Giving and how you can participate. Thank you for your consideration!

Safe Environment Lessons

During the week of October 28, all classes will be completing the Diocese's required safe environment lessons during religion classes. Athletics Update

On October 5th, our students competed in the Cross Country Championship Meet. They all did really well, and our 6th grade boys team won the championship!! Congratulations to champions Zachary Ling, Ian MacLeod, Nico Martinez, Patrick Maxwell, and Jaxson Rusin. We will be adding this championship to the banner in the gym and honoring the boys with a pep rally soon.

This weekend our volleyball teams will compete in the first round of playoff games. Good luck, Saints!
