Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 10/10/2024 - All People Are Born as Originals
Today's Saints Speak is shorter as we only had three days of school this week! We are looking forward to seeing you today for parent-teacher conferences. Please enter at Door 1 for your conferences. Thank you for being on time to help us stay on schedule throughout the day!
This week’s “saint” of the week is Blessed Carlo Acutis. While not officially a saint quite yet, his canonization has been approved by Pope Francis and will take place in 2025. At that time he will become the first millennial saint! Carlo lived in Italy from 1991-2006, when he died of leukemia at age 15. During his short life, he recognized that God made each human being special and unique. He worked to live his life in a way that was true to the person God made him to be and was known to say “All people are born as originals but many die as photocopies.”
Carlo was very good with technology and even helped update the website for his parish and Catholic school. While he saw the value of technology, he also saw the dangers. He believed that technology is a tool to be used to connect and do good, but should be used in moderation. He can be an inspiration for all of us as we moderate our technology use and remember the importance of staying true to the person God intended us to be.
Carlo Acutis also loved Eucharistic Adoration and often spent time in prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Our school community has Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel on the first Friday of each month. Last Friday I had the opportunity to join several of our students in prayer in our chapel. We are blessed to have this time with Jesus during the school day!

All Saints Day
Following Halloween is our Feast Day, All Saints Day! Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for Mass at 8:15am that morning. Students in many grades are currently learning about the saints in preparation for November 1st. On a tour yesterday I was able to see an 8th grade art class drawing images of their saints in a method similar to Picasso and see a 7th grade religion class preparing for saint “interviews” in our broadcast studio. I love seeing our students connect their faith to various academic subjects throughout the day!
ASCA Wins!
Thank you to all who voted for All Saints in the social media contest hosted by Comfort Services Heating & Air Conditioning! We have won for the fourth year in a row and will be receiving a $1,000 donation from Comfort Services, which is owned and operated by the Dbila family (Brandon-Class of 2016 and Adam-Class of 2020). We are grateful for their continued support of All Saints and to each of you who went online and voted for us!
Health Reminders
We have had several students out sick the past few weeks and know that we are entering cold and flu season. Please do your part to help prevent the spread of illnesses at school. If your child is sick, please keep him/her home until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours. Remind your child to practice good hygiene, including proper handwashing, coughing/sneezing into the elbow, and using Kleenex properly. We know illness cannot always be prevented but appreciate you helping us keep our school community healthy!
Saintly Acts
We did not recognize Saintly Acts this week with the short school week. We look forward to recognizing many students for their Saintly Acts next week!
Enjoy the long weekend,
Margie Marshall
