Saints Speak - 4/20/2023 - Follow the Good

Please take a few minutes to reflect on today’s quote from Pope Francis:

“Everyone has his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better place.”

Today’s quote from Pope Francis really gives us something to ponder. When we reflect on our own choices and those times when we have sinned or have failed to do good, I think if we are honest with ourselves we would realize that in most cases we’re very aware that these choices are not good before we make them. If we focus less on how others might not share our values and more on ensuring our own choices align with what we know to be good, and if each one of us does this, what an impact we can make!

Scholastic Book Fair

The students are loving picking out new books at our spring Book Fair, and we had so much fun at Literacy Night last night! Thank you to all our volunteers who have made the Book Fair possible, especially Laura Blackwell and Lisa Hajek, and to our fantastic teacher committee that helped with last night’s event. Students will be invited to shop the Book Fair today with their classes, and Friday morning after mass will be the final shopping opportunity. Don’t miss the chance to get some great new books for summer!

Family Rosary

In the month of May, we will focus on a very special Person of the Month: Mary, our heavenly Mother. All ASCA families are invited to join us to pray the rosary on Wednesday, May 3rd, at 6:30pm. Look for additional information coming soon, but we hope you can make it to join with us in prayer to kick off the month of May!

Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program (Empower Illinois)

The Tax Credit Scholarship Program has provided scholarships 58 scholarships over the past 5 years so students could attend ASCA. If our legislators, don’t take action, the program will expire at the end of this year and several current All Saints students will lose their scholarships. This means that either a) less students will be able to receive an excellent Catholic education at ASCA or b) our school community will have to find alternative ways to fund these scholarships for families in need.

To prevent this from happening, we need your help! Let your legislator know that you support the Tax Credit Scholarship Program and that it has benefited our community. There’s a few ways you can help:

  • Click here for an easy way to contact your legislator TODAY. This will only take you a minute or two!
  • Write a physical letter to your state senator or representative and deliver it to their local office. All Saints’ representative is Janet Yang Rohr, and our senator is Laura Ellman.
  • We are putting together a group to join Mrs. Bajek in Springfield in the next few weeks. If you’re interested in helping in this way, contact Mrs. Bajek for next steps.
