Saints Speak - 11/3/2017 - Thankful

We are at the end of a pretty exciting week at All Saints Catholic Academy.   Last Friday, our school community celebrated Trunk or Treat.  There are a lot of moving parts that have to be put in place for an event of this undertaking.  I want to personally thank Jennifer Haidu and her outstanding team of volunteers - Kati Coglianese, Theresa Cunningham, Margaret Danahy, Joyce Davids, Mary Gardner, Jeff Haidu, Katy Maurer, Kim Pritikin – who worked so hard so that our students and families could have so much fun.  Even though Mother Nature did not cooperate as well as we would have liked, the cooler weather did not matter.

On the coat tails of Trunk or Treat, our building was overflowing with superheroes and princesses alike on Halloween.  We sometimes forget how enjoyable it is to play and pretend; and it takes our children to remind us of how precious this time is in our lives.  The Halloween parades brought a smile to everyone’s face – parent, teacher and staff.  The day was capped off with Halloween parties in our preschool through grade 5 classrooms, and literary presentations and trick or treating in the junior high.  Once again, thanks to our amazing school parents for their time and creativity in helping the magic to happen!

Our All Saints feast day began with our all school liturgy, and it was wonderful to welcome our youngest saints – our three and four year old preschool students – to their very first liturgy of the year.  They did an amazing job, and I am so very proud of each one of them!  Coming together to celebrate mass is one of the most important things that we do as Catholic Christians, as we gather together at the table of love.  I would like to recognize Patti Stock, our Director of Campus Ministry, staff members Joe Moore, Tom Sedlacek, and Allen Stock, and all of the teachers and students who give so much of themselves to the All Saints community in composing and presenting our outstanding school masses.

Father Mark Bernhard, our School Chaplain, gave a very personal homily at this mass that I, our students, and all who attended will not soon forget.  Father Mark, who is an accomplished baseball player and lover of all sports, painted a beautiful picture of all the Saints in Heaven cheering all of us on here in our earthly lives.  There are many ‘saints’ among us who are inspired by the Saints who have gone before us.  We need to know the stories of our Saints, because they have fought the good fight; they have finished the race.

Our Junior High students celebrated All Saints Day with a rotation of many different activities about Saints that included a saints game show in the morning; then coming to the gym in the afternoon for Circle of Saints and the first ever Father Mark Late Night Show.  Jimmy Fallon, you have got some serious competition!!!  Look for more to come from Father Mark and our fabulous production team.

We end this week with our Parent Teacher Conferences both yesterday and today.  I have enjoyed seeing so many of you in the building.  There are long but important days, as our parent teacher connection is key in the success of your/our students.   Know that we are committed to this partnership, not just at conference time, but for all 176 days of the school year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher at any time.  I have to acknowledge my staff and their resolute and loving commitment to their work and our students.

These are but a few examples of God’s grace unmeasured, and His love beyond compare for which I, and we all, should be thankful for.
