Saints Speak from the Principal - 2/18/2021 - A Month to Celebrate

Dear Parents,

We began Lent yesterday with a beautiful Prayer Service led by Mr. Moore.  All students received ashes a little differently this year.  They were sprinkled on their heads.  Mr. Moore shared that we are asked to pray, fast and give alms during Lent.  With a snow day on Tuesday, the students were not able to write out their Lenten Promises.  They silently made their Lenten Promises to God during the Prayer Service.  .

Black History Month

February is Black History Month.  The Catholic Identity and Diversity Committee has put together some resources for you to view and share with your children. Please click here for a variety of websites that offer information about many Afro-Amercans that have contributed to our American History.  The committee has also created Prayer Cards for each student featuring an Afro-American Saint.  These cards will be distributed to students next week.  Please look for the cards and discuss the saint your child received with him/her.  This committee has worked hard to share resources and to help share our Catholic Faith within the ASCA community.

Parent Survey

You received a Parent Survey last week from the Catholic Schools Office.  Please complete this survey as soon as possible.  The survey is sent to all Catholic Schools in the Joliet Diocese.  The results will be sent to Mrs. Marshall in the spring.  It will be very helpful to her as she makes further plans for ASCA.

Action Alert

The Catholic Schools Office recently sent information asking for all of our help to save the Invest in Kids ActEmpower Illinois - Investment Tax Credit Scholarship Program.  The Empower Illinois - Illinois Investment Tax Credit Scholarship has been received by a number of families here at ASCA and other Catholic Schools in the Joliet Diocese.  Please review the folowing, and lend your help and support to save this important program:

Governor JB Pritzker delivered his budget address to the Illinois General Assembly this afternoon and his proposed budget includes devastating cuts to the Invest in Kids Act, the law that makes tax credit scholarships possible.

To be clear, these proposed cuts hurt kids the most by putting limits on tax credit donations that fund their scholarships. Making these cuts to the Tax Credit Scholarship Program does not help support those most in need, and scholarships for kids are NOT “corporate loopholes."

During this challenging time, kids need more quality education options, not fewer. And while Illinois’ financial challenges are significant, the State should not balance its budget on the backs of children from low-income and working-class communities or the schools that serve them so well.

Now is the time to let legislative leaders know your support for the Invest in Kids Act and for tax credit scholarships, and that these proposed cuts are bad for kids and families. Make sure your voice is heard by taking these two quick steps:

  • Click here to sign up for text and email alerts and updates on the Invest in Kids Act
  • Click here to send your elected officials a message to let them know how important this program is to you, your family and your school community.
  • Click here to donate as soon as possible, if you have not already made your 2021 tax credit scholarship donation. The greater the number of contributors to the program, the greater the likelihood of fighting these proposed cuts. TCS donations will not be impacted at this time.

We stand with you and the entire Tax Credit Scholarship Community to fight for this vital program, for the thousands of students who have received a tax credit scholarship and the many thousands more waiting in line. We will not stop advocating, and we will not stop fighting until we secure what our kids and their families deserve: access to a safe, quality education at the school that best fits their needs.
