Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 10/1/2026 - Industriousness Keeps Us Consistent
We are looking forward to hosting another special visitor for Mass tomorrow – Bishop Spies! If you’re planning to join us and haven’t yet RSVPed, please do so by clicking here. Please note, there will be no Adoration tomorrow; we will do our October Adoration on Friday, 10/16.
October Updates: Virtue & Respect Life Month
October is recognized as Respect Life Month throughout the Catholic Church. On Monday, October 4th, we will be having a special Respect Life Day, where students can wear pink or blue shirts and out of uniform bottoms if they bring in a donation of any amount for Waterleaf Women’s Center. If you’re not familiar with Waterleaf, you can click here for more information. For the students, we will explain to them that Waterleaf is a place that supports mothers and families who are expecting a new baby and might need extra help.
Throughout the month of October, our students will learn about their new virtue, industriousness, during faith buddies time. Industriousness is putting steady, consistent effort toward a task to achieve a result. I shared a few examples with the students earlier this week: studying a little bit each night for a test, instead of cramming the night before, and setting a goal for yourself then taking small steps toward that goal each day, instead of expecting to accomplish everything all at once. Students will learn more about industriousness, as well as the example set by St. John Neumann, during faith buddies time this month.
Reminder: Parent-Teacher Conferences
As a reminder, we have a short week next week due to Parent-Teacher Conferences! On Thursday, students will dismiss at 11:30am, and conferences will be held in the afternoon and evening. There is no bus home Thursday and no lunch served at school. After care is available until 3pm; if your child is going to after care please be sure to pack him/her a lunch. On Friday, conferences are held in the morning. If you haven’t already done so, go to your FACTS Family Portal account to sign up for a conference. Sign-ups close on Tuesday to give the teachers an opportunity to prepare for the conferences on Thursday and Friday.
If you are doing a virtual conference, the teacher will send you a link next week. If you are meeting in person, please enter and exit through Door 1. In all cases, please arrive on time and expect to finish the conference on time. The teachers look forward to meeting with you and continuing to partner with you in support of your child’s learning and growth.
Safety Drills
Safety is our top priority at All Saints. On campus we have many physical measures in place to ensure the safety of our students, including secure doors, bullet-resistant film on glass windows and doors, phones in every classroom that can call 911 in an emergency, and a robust camera system monitoring inside and outside the building. We also have several procedures in place to ensure our students’ safety, including protocols to keep all doors locked and use of the RAPTOR visitor management system. We regularly discuss our protocols with local law enforcement and make updates and additions to our plans and infrastructure as recommended.
We also practice our drills so staff and students are prepared should there ever be an emergency. We have already had one fire drill and will soon have our second required fire drill, with the Naperville Fire Department present. On Tuesday, October 6, we will be conducting our annual law enforcement lockdown drill. The Naperville Police Department will be on site that day to conduct the drill with us. When we do this drill, we do let the students know that is just practice and there is no immediate threat or danger. The classroom teachers also use age-appropriate language with their students about the drill, as the same message for this type of event cannot be used for our 3-year-olds and our 8th graders.
Our faculty and staff will also participate in a more extensive intruder/ALICE training with the Naperville Police Department on our next early release day. If you have any questions about this drill or the safety measures in place at ASCA, please contact me.
Parish Masses
As mentioned last week, we have Family Mass coming up at several of our parishes throughout the month of October! The scheduled family Masses are listed below. We hope to see you there, showing off your ASCA uniform or spirit wear so all parishioners know that you’re from All Saints!
- St. Elizabeth Seton: Sunday, October 4th, 10am (this is also Donut Sunday)
- Our Lady of Mercy: Sunday, October 18th, 10am
- St. Thomas the Apostle: Sunday, October 18th, 11:15am
- St. Margaret Mary: Sunday, October 25th, 11:15am (SMMP also asked me to share that they have their Donut Sunday this week, 10/4!)
Lost and Found
We have already accumulated many items in the Lost & Found. If your child has lost something, please have them check next week or check yourself when you are here for conferences Thursday and Friday. Anything left behind after conferences will be donated.
