Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 9/8/2022 - The Gospel Invitation

Today’s message from Pope Francis is about acting with love:

“Before all else, the Gospel invites us to respond to the God of love who saves us, to see God in others and to go forth from ourselves to seek the good of others.”

Throughout the Gospels we hear stories of Jesus reaching out to those in need and showing them kindness and love. He is never afraid to socialize with sinners, seeing God in each person and recognizing the good. Our theme this year calls us to do the same, choosing to act with kindness toward all.

Last Friday, the teachers and I were at St. James in Glen Ellyn meeting with other Diocesan teachers and administrators. We listened to a fantastic speaker talk about the Eucharistic Revival and the importance of spending time with Jesus, in prayer and in Adoration. We are looking forward to having more opportunities for students to visit our Chapel for prayer this year, including Eucharistic Adoration the first Friday of each month. Tomorrow is our first Eucharistic Adoration of the year. If you join us for morning Mass, consider spending a few minutes in the chapel after Mass before heading off for your day.

Tomorrow will also be the first day of our Virtues in Practice program! Students will meet after Mass with their Faith Buddies to learn about the month’s virtue, faith. Our hope is to have our students be models of Faith to one another. A virtue is a good habit. Habits grow by practice. Whenever students exemplify these virtues, they will be recognized by receiving a Saintly Act. This year we are following the schedule for the Year of Faith. You may click here to read more about the program and the monthly virtues. We also encourage you to pray the Act of Faith at home with your families throughout the year.

Arrival & Dismissal:

Thank you for all your efforts to keep our arrival and dismissal procedures running smoothly. Your attention and care while driving on campus ensures the safety of all. As a reminder, during arrival and dismissal times (7:30-8:15am & 3:00-4:00pm), all vehicles must enter campus at the west entrance and exit at the east entrance. Additionally, our exit is right turn only during these times to keep traffic moving safely.

Lunch & Recess:

We are blessed to have a fantastic group of volunteers who give their time regularly to assist with lunch and recess. They distribute lunches, supervise students, and sanitize lunch tables between groups as we rotate nearly 400 K-8 students through four lunch periods. (If you’d like to help, contact Cristine Shaw at cshaw@ascacademy.org).  During lunch and recess, as in the classroom, we strive to teach the students responsibility and respect. While our volunteers will always assist with cleaning, we do expect students to throw out their garbage, clean up their spills, pick up the balls at the end of recess, and leave these shared spaces the same way they found them. Please take a few minutes this weekend to discuss these expectations with your child(ren). Thank you for your partnership in helping us instill respect and responsibility in our students!
