Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 5/6/2021 - Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart

It has been a great Teacher Appreciation Week here at ASCA! We have enjoyed celebrating our teachers and showing them how much they are loved. Thank you to ASPA, and especially to Kristy Wagester and Courtney Devine, for providing delicious lunches for the faculty and staff throughout the week. Today, National Nurses Day, we also begin our weeklong celebration of our nurse, Mrs. Fuller. We’ll continue to celebrate her through May 12, School Nurse Day. I feel blessed to work with so many incredible people here at All Saints!

Many of you have likely heard news updates regarding Illinois House Bill 2789. For those who are not familiar with the bill, I encourage you to read more about the legislation here or here. In summary, the bill gives the state extraordinary powers to investigate and act on schools - public and nonpublic – regarding health protocols and in-person learning. The bill has passed the Illinois House of Representatives and is now in the Senate. If passed, it has the potential to limit our ability at All Saints to make independent decisions best suited to the needs of our community. We have safely remained in school for 160 days this year, following protocols that fit our needs and keep our students safe. This bill, if passed, takes that decision-making power out of the hands of All Saints. I urge you to reach out to your State Senator’s office today to share how IL HB 2789 may negatively impact our school. You can click here to find and contact your Senator today.

I have several health and safety updates to share today as we prepare for the summer months. For those of you still looking for a COVID vaccination appointment, Naperville Pediatrics has appointments available for the Moderna vaccine. They will also be getting the Pfizer vaccine once it is approved for ages 12-15; if you are interested please contact them directly to make an appointment. If your child receives a COVID vaccine, please provide a copy of the completed vaccination card to Mrs. Fuller for his/her medical record.

Due to COVID, Hearing & Vision Screenings were not done this year at All Saints. We will work with the DuPage County Health Department to test these students next year, but if you have concerns about your child’s hearing or vision please contact your pediatrician. Hearing screens are typically conducted for preschool-3rd grade, and vision screening are given to preschool, kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th grade students.

If your child currently has medication at All Saints, this will be returned directly to you, the parent, at dismissal on the child’s last day of school (5/21 for PK/K/8th and 5/28 for 1st-7th). Please keep an eye out for Mrs. Fuller or a member of the admin team at dismissal, as we will be distributing the medication to you directly in the car line at that time.

Now is the time to schedule appointments for summer physicals, dental, and vision appointments! Please remember the following are required for the fall:

  • New Health Physical for all incoming kindergarten and 6th grade students, as well as preschoolers who will be in preschool at All Saints for the first time
  • Dental Examination for all incoming kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grade students
  • Vision Examination for all incoming kindergarten students (different from the vision screening mentioned above)

Forms and additional information can be found at https://ascacademy.org/Parent-Resources/Health-Services.

If you registered for sports at All Saints next year, even if you are not in a grade listed above, a current sports physical is required one week before the season begins. You may use a school physical in lieu of a sports physical, however, a sports physical CANNOT be accepted as proof of a physical examination for mandated physicals. Sports physicals are valid for 395 calendar days from the date the physical was issued and must be valid for the entire season.

Our 7th grade Girl Scout Troop recently made thank you treat bags for the Edward-Elmhurst Health vaccination staff. The teams were excited and appreciative of the thoughtful gesture. Thank you to the Girl Scouts for thinking of these hardworking individuals!

For Thankful Thursday this week, we would like to recognize Michael Graham Salon, a 2020 DDA sponsor. We thank Michael Graham for their continued support of All Saints!

Lastly, I’d like to recognize the following students who received Saintly Acts this week: Adalyn Z. (2nd grade), Andrew W. (2nd grade), Jayden N. (4th grade), Axel A. (Kdg), Charlotte W. (Kdg), Colin M. (6th grade), William S. (6th grade), Danny P. (4th grade), Tommy M. (4th grade), Mateo S. (4th grade), Caitlin A. (5th grade), Julia J. (8th grade), Lauren T. (8th grade), Declan D. (7th grade), Frank B. (1st grade), Abby T. (7th grade), Shivani S. (1st grade), Hope L. (2nd grade), Tallula M. (4th grade), James G. (5th grade), Britta H. (5th grade), and Ashley H. (5th grade).
