Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 5/13/2021 - May You Always Know
Yesterday, we celebrated our 2nd grade First Communicants with a beautiful mass! We are so proud of them for their hard work in preparation for this special day. We are happy that they can now join us in receiving the Eucharist at our weekly school masses and at their home parishes each Sunday. Thank you to our 2nd grade parents, Mrs. Bergquist, and Ms. Catalano for preparing them!
Throughout the month of May, we have begun our morning prayer with a prayer to Mary, our heavenly mother. Tomorrow (Friday) we will crown Mary and pray the Living Rosary together in a special celebration. May Crowning will begin at 8:15am; our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students will join us in person while the other grades will participate virtually. The livestream may be viewed by clicking here.
Tomorrow will be a busy day, as we also have our 8th Grade Awards Ceremony in the afternoon. We look forward to celebrating the many accomplishments of the Class of 2021!
While I didn’t intend to discuss legislative matters two weeks in a row, there is another important issue that I feel necessary to bring to your attention. Four years ago, Illinois passed the Invest in Kids Act, which allows individuals to donate to a scholarship-granting organization(SGO) and receive a 75% income tax credit. The donation is then used to provide scholarships for students from low-income families to attend private schools (like All Saints). This tax credit scholarship program in a win-win – by donating, you get a credit toward your income tax, and you help support students at our school!
Governor Pritzker’s proposed budget recommends severely cutting the program. There is already greater need than available scholarships, and the proposed budget would further limit the funds available to our students. This budget cut is opposed by Bishop Hicks and the other Illinois bishops; click here for a letter from them. Please consider contacting your local legislators to voice your opposition to this program cut and inform them how the Invest in Kids Act positively impacts our school community. Your support of the Invest in Kids Act benefits students at All Saints and throughout the state of Illinois!
The COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine has been approved for ages 12-15. If your child receives the COVID vaccine, please remember to provide a copy of the completed vaccination card to Mrs. Fuller to help us maintain complete and accurate medical records.
