Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 2/3/2022 - Hello February!

We are having so much fun celebrating our Catholic School this week! We began the week with a fantastic Open House, where our faculty and staff showcased some of the amazing things happening in our classrooms each day. 50 families came through to tour on Sunday, and nearly 20 have already enrolled for the fall! Thank you to all who helped promote the event by sharing on social media; your children’s Out of Uniform Passes will be distributed tomorrow. Thank you as well to the parents, students, and alumni who assisted us as greeters, classroom helpers, and tour guides. YOU make All Saints special!

Other highlights of the week so far have included the 5th grade Saints Museum, Junior High Talent Show, a performance from the St. Francis Jazz Band, and an afternoon at the ASCA Cinema. We are looking forward to tomorrow’s mass, Spelling Bees, and Know-It-All show, too!

Since we missed the opportunity to wear our Catholic Schools Week t-shirts with yesterday’s snow day, we will have a special out of uniform day next Tuesday, February 8, when students who purchased the Catholic Schools Week t-shirts sold by the Class of 2022 may wear them.

On Tuesday, we began Black History Month. Throughout our country, February is a time to honor African Americans and learn about their history. In our morning announcements throughout the month, we will be sharing some information about Blacks who have been important to the Catholic Church. You can read more about some of these individuals here. We are also working with our School Board's Catholic Identity & Diversity Committee on a new initiative to introduce a “person of the month.”

February’s Person of the Month is Cardinal Gregory, the Archbishop of Washington. Cardinal Gregory was appointed by Pope Francis in 2020, making history as the first Black American to be made a Cardinal. He is originally from Chicago and has served in many leadership roles within the Church and the USCCB. The students will be learning more about Cardinal Gregory throughout the month.

As I mentioned previously, last Thursday was our local Science Fair! Our 7th graders learned all about the scientific method as they conducted experiments, wrote research papers, and presented their findings to the judges. Congratulations to the following students who earned Gold at our ASCA Science Fair and will be representing All Saints at the Regional Science Fair next month: Megan Bergman, Brody Best, Josie Cadden, Sydney Dieter, Daniel Gimenez, Erin Kathmann, Kherington Kennedy, Ashley Klein, Alex Snyder, Liz Thomas, and Tyler Wojtowicz. Way to go, Saints!

Last week you should have received your invitation to the Dinner Dance Auction – Shine Bright, Light up the Night! Reserve your tickets now and plan to join us on Saturday, March 12. If you have any questions please contact our DDA chairs at dda@ascacademy.org or visit the DDA website at asca22.givesmart.com. This is sure to be a great evening as we come together as an All Saints community!

Lastly, I’d like to recognize the students who earned Saintly Acts this week: Niko P. (6th grade), Evan B. (4th grade), Sarah B. (3rd grade), Rylee R. (3rd grade), Kate L. (6th grade), Reagan M.
