Saints Speak from Mrs. Marshall - 10/19/2023 - Pray For Peace
Today, instead of a quote from Pope Francis, I’d like to share his prayer for peace. Pope Francis is calling for a day of fasting, penance, and prayer for peace next Friday, October 27th. Consider spending time with this prayer today and in the next few days as well.
Lord God of peace, hear our prayer!
We have tried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been shattered; how many hopes have been buried… But our efforts have been in vain.
Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: "Never again war!"; "With war everything is lost." Instill in our hearts the courage to take concrete steps to achieve peace.
Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.
Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words "division," "hatred" and "war" be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be "brother," and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!
Amen.
Unity Day: Wednesday, October 25th
October is Bullying Prevention Month, and throughout the month our students have learned about how they can help prevent bullying in their classrooms. To conclude the month we will be celebrating Unity Day on Wednesday, October 25th. Students may be out of uniform as long as they wear ORANGE – orange clothes and accessories are welcome and encouraged! We are wearing orange to show we are united against bullying and stand together in support of kindness and respect for all. I hope your children will participate!
All Saints Day
Wednesday, November 1st, we celebrate our Feast Day – All Saints Day! Please join us for Mass at 8:15am as we gather in prayer, remembering the saints who have gone before us and led by their example of love.
November 1st is also our 3rd Annual Day of Giving! On our Feast Day we celebrate all that makes ASCA special – the students, teachers, parents, alumni, and friends of All Saints who support our mission of creating saints and scholars. On this year’s Day of Giving, help us meet our $15,000 goal. We have several important areas of focus for the coming year, aligned with our strategic plan, including recess pad and playground improvements, continued academic excellence (supported by retaining and recruiting fantastic teachers and maintaining small class sizes), and safety and security. We’ll be sharing more information next week about the Day of Giving and how you can participate. Thank you for your consideration!
Fall Play: Wizard of Oz
We are so excited to have a musical at All Saints this year! Our talented students will be performing in The Wizard of Oz on Friday, November 17th and Saturday, November 18th. Both shows are at 7pm; tickets purchased in advance are $3 for students and $7 for adults; all tickets are $10 at the door. Click here to purchase your tickets today. Come follow the yellow brick road with us!
Invest in Kids
I know we must seem like a broken record talking about the Invest in Kids Act again, but it’s just that important to the continued success of Catholic education in Illinois! Next week is the veto session, and supporters of the tax credit scholarship program will be storming Springfield to make sure legislators are aware of how impactful this program has been in the lives of so many. You can easily show your support without traveling to Springfield – go to www.savemyscholarship.org and use the form to contact your legislator and ask them to support the Invest in Kids Act. It takes less than a minute, but every voice matters!
