Saints Speak - 2/9/2023 - Loving and Helping the Poor
Today’s quote from Pope Francis ties perfectly to last month's focus of poverty in America:
“In the poor and outcast we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.”
In our morning announcements throughout the month of January, we talked about the Catholic Social Teachings. These teachings remind us of our responsibility to society and especially to those who may be viewed as “less than” in our world. For me, this quote and the Catholic Social Teachings call to mind the Beatitudes. We are called to see Christ in each and every person around us and must remember that whenever we do something for the poor, discarded, and outcast, we are actually doing it for Him.
After a few bitterly cold days last week, we have been grateful for milder temperatures this week and a chance to go outside for recess! Outdoor recess is a great opportunity for students to get fresh air and burn off some extra energy before returning to their classrooms. Thank you to our parent volunteers who supervise recess in all elements and give our students this opportunity! As a reminder, we go outside whenever possible, so please continue to send your children with appropriate coats and outerwear each day.

The competition at the intermediate level was so intense that we had to pause the spelling bee due to time constraints, to be continued tomorrow. Look for an update on our top intermediate spellers in next week’s Saints Speak!
Valentine’s Day
On Tuesday, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day! Students may be out of uniform if they wear Valentine colors (red and pink). Preschool class parties will be at 10am, and K-5 class parties will be at 2:15pm. Junior high will be spending the afternoon bowling at Bowlero; pray that we have nice weather for this walking field trip! If your child is bringing in Valentines for his/her classmates, please do not bring in food items. Refer to your homeroom teachers’ newsletter regarding the number of students in each classroom.
