Saints Speak - November 10, 2016

Saints Speak

From Mrs. Santos

November 10, 2016

Each week, our students and staff explore a new virtue.  This study of and, most importantly, the practice of virtues helps us in becoming better versions of ourselves.     The following passage from the Catechism of the Catholic Church beautifully illustrates this.

CCC 1803 "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

A virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do the good. It allows the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself. The virtuous person tends toward the good with all his sensory and spiritual powers; he pursues the good and chooses it in concrete actions.

The goal of a virtuous life is to become like God.

This week, we are studying the virtue of enthusiasm.  This virtue has a lot to teach us.    Enthusiasm enables us to be positive, optimistic and passionate.  It will help us to maintain a good, healthy attitude.  It will humbly direct us to good through our faith in God, and our desire to serve Him above all things and not ourselves.

Even when we experience disappointments or setbacks, we have the power to exercise enthusiasm.  The virtue of enthusiasm is like a fuel.  This fuel helps us to make choices in how we act and react.  Our enthusiasm is like a pipeline through which flows all of our work, our service, and all that we do in love of God and neighbor.  It feels good to be enthusiastic.  It is good to be around enthusiastic people.

The enthusiasm and support of our school families is what makes All Saints a very special place to be.  Our boards, administration and staff work hard to make All Saints a safe and nurturing school, where high academic standards are expected and set, where children are known as individuals, and where faith and morals are important components in the formation of our students.

Although we strive to be good stewards of the resources afforded to us so we can keep a Catholic education as affordable as possible for young families, there is a “tuition gap,” the difference between what a family actually pays and what it costs the school to educate a child. I am seeking your help through our Annual Appeal for us to join together to bridge that gap.

I will be reaching out to all of our school families to talk about how you can help over the coming week.   I hope that the enthusiasm that our school community has shown and experienced at recent events like our Trunk or Treat and the Blue Out will carry over to the Annual Appeal and the important work we will accomplish.

“Enthusiasm is the electricity of life. How do you get it? You act enthusiastic until you make it a habit.”
