Principal's Newsletter - May 22, 2013

As you drive into the school drop off line, please look to the west and notice the lovely legacy gift from the 8th graders to our school. They have created a beautiful outdoor rosary. This rosary will be blessed on Thursday morning after the eighth graders celebrate their Baccalaureate Mass.  This is a peaceful and beautiful addition to our school, and a thoughtful gift to the current and future students of All Saints Catholic Academy.  We are very grateful. Well done graduates!

Summer SCRIP

Keep chipping away at your 2013-2014 fundraising obligation by participating in Summer SCRIP.  We will be processing scrip this summer on a limited schedule. It will be processed once a month on the following dates:  June 10, July 8, and August 5.   Please note that we will ONLY be accepting presto pay orders. To make it even easier for you, you do not have to send or bring in your order. Orders will be reprinted in the office.  All you need to do is pick up your order, which will be ready by Thursday of the week that orders are processed.

Summer school office hours are from 9 am to Noon, Monday thru Thursday (closed Friday).

Any SCRIP orders with checks or cash will NOT processed. If you wish to open a presto pay account, go to the scrip website (www.shopwithscrip.com) to do so. There is a $0.15 charge for using this convenience. Once you set up the presto pay, scrip will send you a 4 digit code. You will need to e-mail that code to Debbie Bibo so she can activate the account. It is that simple! Please feel free to call or e-mail Debbie Bibo with any questions at dbibo11@hotmail.com, or (630) 777-0425 (C), (630) 375-1090 (H).  If you haven’t registered yet for the SCRIP program, this would be the perfect way to get started this summer.  ASCA’s enrollment code is 34B8FD2D12193.

Summer Reading Lists

The summer reading list for each grade level will be sent with next week’s Principal’s Newsletter.  Reading is so important that it deserves a prominent place in your summer schedule.  Look for the fun and interesting books for your student’s grade level!

Basketball Camp Thank You

The Boosters want to thank Dana Menendez and Mo Chavez for organizing and executing the recent basketball skills camp held on May 4th and May 11th for grades 3 to 8. Also we would like to thank Ed Cronin, Tom Widelski, Kaila and Kassie Buchhulz for their help during the camps. A special thanks to Sports Authority for donating bags, balls and other items to our school.  We had great attendance, with 44 kids participating in the two camps.

Medication Pickup

Just a reminder, if you have any medications in our Health Office, they must be picked up by the last day of school, Friday, May 31.  Please contact Susie Loscheider, ASCA Health Attendant, with any questions at (630) 961-6125.

Recycle those leftover school supplies

Use the attached forms (SCARCE) to send the leftover school supplies to SCARCE. It makes so much more sense than sending them to the trash. Please consider it.

Dreading Desk and Locker Leftovers? What do you with all the used school supplies the kids come home with as the year starts winding down?  Toss most of it out?  Wouldn’t it be great to spare our drawers and closets from overflowing, and instead donate these items to be reused and recycled?

Please join ASCA in supporting the School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) – Tools for Schools Program (TFS)

SCARCE is dedicated to educating students, teachers, residents, businesses, and the general public to conserve natural resources and energy, prevent pollution, reduce waste, recycle, and compost organic materials, so that together we can make a difference; we can protect the environment and work toward a sustainable future for our community.

When:  Now through May 30th

What:  Fill out the school supply donation form for SCARCE.  The form designates what items your child should bring home vs. keep at ASCA for donation to SCARCE.  Send this form to your child’s teacher.  Each classroom will have a collection box.  Or if you have a simple request of either sending all the items home or ASCA keeping all of them for donation feel free to e-mail your teacher instead and recycle the checklist.

Once collected, these items will be taken to SCARCE.  Then what…

75% of the donated items are distributed to low income schools, alternative schools, and special education programs in Illinois.  The remaining 25% of items are sent to schools, orphanages, hospitals, libraries and youth centers around the world. – including Ghana, Kenya, China, India, Ethiopia, Lithuania, Columbia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Rwanda, Uganda and many more.  Since its inception in 2002, SCARCE’s Tools for Schools Program has diverted over 1,000,000 supplies from the landfill.

Even crayons have a special purpose!  SCARCE will peel, sort and melt the broken and used crayons in a crock pot.  They will then be poured into special molds to form large crayons to be used by children with special needs.  Any whole crayons received will be sorted into sets for underprivileged children.

If you have any questions please contact Bridget Roe at roeyerboat@yahoo.com.
