Saints Speak - August 31, 2016

Saints Speak

From Mrs. Santos

August 31, 2016

This is the value of the teacher, who looks at a face and says there's something behind that and I want to reach that person, I want to influence that person, I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich, I want to call out that person who is behind that face, behind that color, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture. I believe you can do it. I know what was done for me.    Maya Angelou

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.   William Butler Yeats

Truly terrific teachers inspire.  It is not enough to be capable or competent.  The All Saints staff goes above and beyond to encourage our students to strive for greatness.  Teachers often are unaware of the impact that they make on their students.  Megan Barnhart, one of our Junior High Language Arts teachers, is one of those extraordinary and humble educators.  She motivates her students to play with ideas, and think deeply about the subject matter.  Her students learn to challenge themselves.  Mrs. Barnhart is a role model that students look up to.

Sasha Goncalves Zitzow was a member of the ASCA Class of 2016, and is currently a freshman at Benet Academy.  She is being recognized by the University of Iowa as a Scholastic Art and Writing Award Midwest Gold Key Recipient next month.  The university acknowledges that teachers play a vital role in the lives of students.  Sasha named Mrs. Barnhart as a teacher who has made a significant impact in her life.  Mrs. Barnhart will be honored along with Sasha at the recognition ceremony.

Congratulations to Sasha and Megan on receiving this honor.  We are proud of you!!

It has been fun to see so many of our students and staff wearing spiritwear on Fridays!  I wanted to remind everyone of a change for this week only.  Because of our All School Panoramic Photo on Friday, September 2, we will celebrate Spiritwear Thursday this week.  So –

  • Tomorrow on Thursday, September 1 - students may wear spiritwear tops with their uniform bottoms for Spiritwear Thursday – pants, shorts, uniform skirts or jumpers.

  • On Friday, September 2 – students should be in uniform – pants, shorts and tennis shoes are ok.

Also, remember that students are required to wear the Perfect Uniform on ALL mass days.

On Perfect Uniform days -

Girls must wear jumpers or skirts - no shorts or pants. In August, September and May, the sweater vest does not need to be worn.  Blouses or polos are OK.

Boys must wear pants - no shorts.

Boys and Girls must wear dress school shoes.  No tennis shoes on mass days.

Please review and discuss this requirement with your K-8 student.  They should be responsible for remembering the dress code on mass days.

Gift Wrap, Gifts and Greeting Cards from Charleston Wrap

Charleston Gift Wrap sales catalogs offering a very attractive array of gift wrap products, gifts and personalized greeting cards were sent home with oldest and only students last week.

Please remember that paper order forms must be returned to the school by Monday, September 12th.  Be sure to have your catalogs with you if you are visiting with family this Labor Day weekend.  Online orders to be delivered directly to homes will be accepted through September 26th, but note that some earned FFO credits are lower on online orders.

We hope that you are enjoying the variety of products in the catalogs.  Questions can be referred to Theresa Cunningham at tacunningham@comcast.net.

Panoramic Photo this Friday

Lifetouch will be at ASCA this Friday, September 2 to take our annual all school panoramic photo at 12:30 pm.  We invite all of our preschool students who are not at school on this afternoon to return to be a part of this photo.  An order form for the photo is going home with all oldest and only students today, and will also be available at the school website.  Photos may be purchased for $18/$24 per picture depending on what size you order.  The Panoramic order form with payment enclosed or online payment made at mylifetouch.com must be turned in on or before the panoramic picture day for the photo to be produced (payments are not billed via FACTS).  These photos have proven to be a very popular keepsake in past years.  Don't wait until after you see the finished product to order yours!  Past photos are displayed in the hallway across from the gym.

Fall Picture Day

Fall Picture Day is scheduled on Monday, September 12th for Pre K through Grade 8, and on Tuesday, September 15 for preschool students not here on Mondays.   Students will be in uniform for this picture, and all students will be photographed.

A form with information about the optional purchase of additional photos will be sent home next Wednesday.

That Man Is You!

Year 5 of That Man Is You! begins on Saturday, September 10. This program takes place Saturday mornings and tackles real issues facing real men.  It looks at the leadership role that has been entrusted to men and addresses the temptations and struggles men face in a culture that attacks authentic manhood.  Finally, it helps formulate a plan to help men overcome these obstacles.  If you are have missed years 1, 2, 3, or 4, it doesn’t matter.  Many All Saints men from different parishes take part in That Man Is You!  All are welcome.  Please join us!!!!!!!

TMIY starts with a light breakfast and fellowship at 6:30 am, followed by a video and small group discussions with a hard stop at 8 am.  What a great way to start the weekend!  That Man Is You! meets at St. Elizabeth Seton, located at 2220 Lisson Road, Naperville, 60565.  Please contact school parent Wayne Klein at 630.202.4400 or at wklein@kleinconstruction.net with any questions.
