Principal's Newsletter - September 4, 2013

Labor Day is always one of those benchmarks of our year that marks the end of summer, and the return to the more disciplined and unbelievably full weeks that go with having the kids back in school.

We start the school year fresh with a clean slate.  If the past school year ‘nature’ of your child was to forget to write down assignments or, even more frustrating, for them to do the assignments and never turn them in…….parents and teachers both pray that maturity has seized the child and created a newly responsible individual.  It happens many times; and yet, it is still work-in-progress for some students.  This is where our partnership between parents and teachers can do their best work. Good communication and a united goal can make a huge difference.  If the example cited here is your reality, please know that we do want to work with you to create a responsible student that will get the most from the excellent education available to them here at ASCA.  Start a conversation with the teacher if you have not done so already. A good beginning will make the rest of the year all the more effective.

Fall Picture Day

Next week on Monday, September 9th and Tuesday, September 10th, Fall Picture Day is scheduled, as follows:

Monday, September 9th - at the ASCA main campus for Kindergarten through 8th grade students, preschoolers who meet on Mondays at ASCA, and for Pre Kindergarten students at the St. Elizabeth Seton campus.

Tuesday, September 10th - at the ASCA main campus for all Tuesday/Thursday preschool students, and for all students who were not photographed on Monday, September 9th

A form with information about the optional purchase of additional photos is being sent home with each student today.  This Lifetouch Form must be filled out with payment enclosed, and brought to school on or before Picture Day for additional photos to be purchased.  The order form must be presented to the photographer at the time a student is photographed for additional photo packages to be printed.  Late order envelopes cannot be accepted.  Additional order forms will be available in the school office.

The students wear their uniforms for this picture, as these are the pictures used in our yearbook.  Speaking of yearbook, we can always use help in the creation of the yearbook.  Interested?  Please let me know by emailing srenehan@ascacademy.org and I will connect you to the team.  Thanks in advance.

Welcome Back Coffee and SHPP Meeting

5th ANNUAL ASCA FALL FUN FAIR

Sponsored by the Class of 2015 – Sunday, September 29 from 1- 4 pm

The Fall Fun Fair is fast approaching, even during these final days of summer!  We invite everyone to participate in this annual All Saints community fundraiser for the graduating class of 2015!  Order your neon academy designated Fun Fair t-shirt which can then be worn during the out of uniform day on Friday, October 4th.  Fun Fair T-shirt order forms were sent home in hard copy last week, and can also be found on the ASCA website (Please remember to include your student’s grade level when ordering their t-shirt).

This big event needs lots of help, and we welcome your participation!  Please contact the Fun Fair committee to volunteer, to learn more about the 2013 Fun Fair, or to bake/purchase a nut free cake for our cakewalk.  Email the team at pmgulli@comcast.net (Maria Gulli), or teamgambs@sbcglobal.net (Chris Gambs).  Your time and talent is needed and greatly appreciated!  Thank you in advance!

Fall Fun Fair T-Shirt Orders

Have fun and show your style by ordering your very own Neon Colored Fun Fair T-Shirt!   Fun Fair T-shirt order forms and payment MUST be in by 3:30 pm next Wednesday, September 11 to ensure that you get one.  Please remember that each grade will have a different neon colored shirt, so if you are ordering more than one shirt, you must include the grade level for each size that you are ordering on your order form.  Order shirts for the whole family (even Mom and Dad) by Wednesday, September 11.  Do not delay turning in your order form.

All students who order a shirt will be invited to wear their t-shirt to school with jeans or shorts on Friday, October 4. Shirts can be ordered even if you cannot attend the fun fair.  The order form is available at the school website.  Please contact Dee Zeuthen at deezeuthen@comcast.net with any fall fun fair t-shirt questions.

Community Outreach

Thank you ASCA families for supporting the cereal collection at the Meet and Greet.  We collected over 130 boxes of cereal for Loaves & Fishes.

During the month of September, Community Outreach will be collecting musical instruments in good condition.  Instead of collecting dust, give the precious gift of music to a child.  All donations can be brought to the ASCA office.  The instruments will be donated to local students.  “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato   If you have any questions, please contact Ann Zediker at jazediker@comcast.net.

We will be collecting pull pop tabs from aluminum cans this year to support the Ronald McDonald House and Edward Hospital.  Pop tab donations can be brought in throughout the school year to your student’s classroom, and placed in the box tops collection bin.

Wednesday Rosary

Our Rosary has resumed in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Reflection Chapel (located across from the school gym) at 7:50 am before Wednesday school mass. Praying the rosary is a great way to receive additional graces, to meet other parents, and to honor Mary, our spiritual mother.

Instruction sheets and extra Rosaries are always available. Kids (even noisy ones) are welcome!  So, we look forward to you joining us each Wednesday morning, beginning next Wednesday, September 11, at 7:50 am.  Please contact Darlene Newman at newmdar@gmail.com with any questions.

That Man Is You!

Year 2 of That Man Is You! will begin this Saturday, September 7, 2013.  This program takes place on Saturday mornings, and tackles real issues facing real men.  It looks at the leadership role that has been entrusted to men, and addresses the temptations and struggles men face in a culture that attacks authentic manhood.  Finally, it helps formulate a plan to help men overcome these obstacles.  Programs start with a light breakfast at 6:30 am, followed by a video and small group discussion, with a hard stop at 8 am.  Last year there were over 60 men registered from all 6 Naperville parishes, and the response was overwhelmingly positive – all are welcome.  You do not need to have attended any of the prior year programs to jump in.  For more information on That Man Is You!, please visit www.thatmanisyou.org, or contact Doug Donovan at douglasldonovan@gmail.com or (630) 217-7449.  Please join us Saturday, September 7th if you can, and feel free to bring a friend or two. Enter on the EAST side of St. Elizabeth Seton, 2220 Lisson Road, Naperville, 60565.
