Principal's Newsletter - October 2, 2013

This Friday, on the Feast of St Francis, the students of All Saints Catholic Academy will join Catholic children of the world in prayer.  From 9:00 to 10:00 am, Pope Francis has asked that the children of faith unite in the 11th annual Worldwide Children’s Eucharistic Holy Hour.  The hour will be shared in increments by the children in grades K-8.  Will you please join us during this time praying for your own faith needs, praying for the safety and happiness of all of our students, praying for peace in this troubled world, and in offering thanksgiving for the great gifts that we have been given?

Wednesday, October 9th is a Prayer Service, not Mass

On Wednesday, October 9th, our 8th graders have created a prayer service for us.  The priests in the Diocese will be in a convocation that day, so we will not be celebrating Mass.

Thanks for Your Support

The Class of 2015 would like to thank you for your support of the 5th Annual Fall Fun Fair.  It was a great day filled with games, prizes, a huge cake walk, and lots of smiles and laughter.  Remember to wear your fun fair t-shirt with jeans this Friday, October 4th for your out of uniform day.  Thanks again and see you next year!

Community Outreach

Time to clean out your closet! During October, Community Outreach will be collecting gently used shoes and boots. They will be given to Hesed House and Peoples Resource Center. If you have any questions please contact Michele Klein at Mklein511@comcast.net.

We will also be collecting pull pop tabs from aluminum cans this year to support the Ronald McDonald House and Edward Hospital. Pop tab donations can be brought in throughout the school year to your student’s classroom, and placed in the box tops collection bin.

Community Outreach received a few instruments from the September instrument collection, and thanks all of the donating families. Mrs. Sturm will be reaching out to 4th graders, giving a few students the opportunity to use these instruments in the ASCA band program.

Healthy Tips from Mrs. Loscheider in the ASCA Health Office

With cold and flu season coming, the three C’s are even more important -

             Clean: Wash your hands

Cover: Cover your cough and sneeze

Contain:  Contain your germs.  Stay home if you are sick.

A couple of healthy reminders:  An 8 year old needs 10-11 hours of sleep each night.  Peanut protein does not come off your hands with the use of a hand sanitizer.

Out of Uniform “Pink & Blue” Day – Friday, October 18

October is Respect Life Month, and four area Catholic schools are excited to be taking part in an effort to assist Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora.  You can help support both the born and unborn babies as well as young mothers in the community that Waterleaf Women’s Center assists (all services are free) daily with material needs, education, and care. Waterleaf went medical in January of 2011 with the addition of an ultrasound machine, and is now able to perform free ultrasounds which provides young women the opportunity to see the tiny life they are carrying!

The mission statement of Waterleaf is:

“To assist those facing an unplanned pregnancy, regardless of their socioeconomic or religious background, by providing them the medical, counseling, educational, material, and community support necessary to realize their full potential as men and women created in God’s image.”

How Will the “Pink & Blue” Day Work?

On Friday, October 18, 2013, you can dress out of uniform and wear pink or blue in support of the born and unborn babies in the community.

Kids are encouraged to do an extra chore around the house or for a neighbor to raise money, or perhaps donate their weekly allowance and bring that in to school as their contribution for dressing out of uniform. Please make sure the children let their parents know why they are contributing!

October 18th is a special day,

to celebrate Respect Life month in a unique way…

Bring a donation large or small

And dress in pink or blue, stand tall

to honor the beautiful born & unborn babies

(If checks are brought in, please make them payable to Waterleaf Women’s Center – thank you)   www.WaterleafWC.org

Donations Needed

Mrs. Abrams is looking for some used Scrabble or Bananagram letter tiles.  If you have some letters that you can donate, please send them to school in a plastic ziplock bag.  Thank you in advance for your help.
