Embracing a Generous Life – The Grace of Stewardship

In his short but profound booklet, Embracing a Generous Life, Bishop Robert Morneau describes stewardship in a nutshell: receive, nurture, share, return. I love this description. When we share what we have been freely given from our loving and gracious God, we collectively can make a difference.  We can affect change.  In stewardship, we contribute to something larger than ourselves.

Stewardship is essentially about generosity, be it in giving freely from material goods that we possess, from our God given abilities, or simply our presence.  Time, talent and treasure – it is all equal in the eyes of God.  It oftentimes takes practice to learn how to become a “cheerful giver”.  People who become successful at stewardship discover graces and blessings that return in abundance.  Many times, we receive more than we can possibly give.

This past week, our students and school families embodied the virtue of stewardship in the following ways:

  • We were successful in meeting our school goal at the Scholastic Fall Book Fair. Our students will be enjoying an All School Out of Uniform Day reward as a result.More importantly, our school library collection will greatly increase as a result of the generosity of our school. This event could not have been possible without the time and talents of all of the volunteers and co-chairs.

  • Our students participated in the Move Your Feet to Give a Child a Seat event to help fund scholarships given through the Catholic Education Foundation of the Diocese of Joliet.Almost $600 was collected which will fund over 85% of one diocesan scholarship. While the token amount of a $1 contribution may seem small, one deserving student will greatly benefit as a result of many small sacrifices.

National Vocations Awareness Week

National Vocations Awareness Week will be celebrated November 6-12, 2016.  Oftentimes, a vocation is thought of in a religious sense; however, we are all called to a vocation in life.

We would like to invite a priest, seminarian, sister or brother to visit All Saints during this week to address our student body.  But we are also looking to present speakers about other life’s vocations as well.  These speakers would be represented by our parents, our grandparents, our alumni, our founders, our supporters.

If you are interested in finding out more and being a part of this very special week, please contact Melissa Santos at msantos@ascacademy.org, or (630) 961-6125.
