Principal's Newsletter - October 16, 2013

A few years ago, Liberty Mutual ran an ad campaign entitled “Do The Right Thing”. It was one of those “thinker-type” ads, but it was memorable. A series of people observe someone selflessly helping someone else, and then doing something selfless themselves.  At the end of the ad, you realize that it has come full circle, with the original person who did something good now becoming the recipient. There are several themes here: leaving the world a better place, being others-centered, and, yes, doing the right thing.  The model of selfless sharing of time, of money, of caring has been hidden in our society for some time by the inordinate attention offered to sensationalism and scarcity.  It would be so nice if we could return to a culture of peaceful appreciation of all of the abundance we have……..allowing our very best self to feel the grace of giving to others by “doing the right thing”.

If you are curious about the ad, you can find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJiHBuma4ZE

Chiller Update

We are knee deep in the chiller installation. For the remainder of this week and through the end of next week, we will be operating without temperature control.  It would be a good idea to send a sweater with your child….just in case.

Affy Tapples

Thanks to all who have ordered Affy Tapples.  The 8th grade class appreciates your support.  We have one important note regarding pickup.  We discovered that the company has changed their packaging substantially; and being a peanut product, we will need to distribute them outside of Door 9. The distribution will still be on Thursday, October 24; however, it will be handled outside the school building.  Thanks for your understanding.

Healthy Tips from Mrs. Loscheider in the ASCA Health Office

Apple and pumpkin picking is a great way to engage the whole family.  Start by having the family map out the best site. Have the children use their math skills.  Have a budget worked out.  Weigh and count the produce.  Walking and hiking as a family outdoors with the beautiful leaves encourages healthy living.  It also makes for great memories.

Out of Uniform “Pink & Blue” Day – this Friday, October 18

In honor of Respect Life Month in October, All Saints Catholic Academy students will be participating in an out of uniform day this Friday, October 18, the proceeds of which will assist the Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora.

How Will the “Pink & Blue” Day Work?

On Friday, October 18, 2013, students may dress out of uniform and wear pink or blue in support of the born and unborn babies in the community.  Kids are encouraged to do an extra chore around the house or for a neighbor to raise money, or perhaps donate their weekly allowance and bring that in to school as their contribution for dressing out of uniform. Please make sure the children let their parents know why they are contributing!  (If checks are brought in, please make them payable to Waterleaf Women’s Center – thank you)   www.WaterleafWC.org
