Saints Speak - November 17, 2016

Saints Speak

From Mrs. Santos

In reflecting on this week’s virtue of Charity, I can’t help but sing a song that I have known for most of my life, Where Charity and Love Prevail.  If you are a cradle Catholic like me, you will be humming along too!  Please pay particular attention to the lyrics of this hymn that follow:

Where charity and love prevail,
there God is ever found;
Brought here together by Christ’s love,
by love are we thus bound.

With grateful joy and holy fear
God’s charity we learn;
Let us with heart and mind and soul
now love God in return.

Forgive we now each other’s faults
as we our faults confess;
And let us love each other well
in Christian holiness.

Let strife among us be unknown,
let all contention cease;
Be God’s the glory that we seek,
be ours God’s holy peace.

Let us recall that in our midst
dwells God’s begotten Son;
As members of his body joined,
we are in Christ made one.

No race or creed can love exclude,
if honored be God’s name;
Our family embraces all
whose Father is the same.

In reflecting on the formation process of our students, service is one of the three primary components (the other two being evangelization and catechesis).  This includes "guidance of young people in developing Christian and social consciousness and a commitment to a life of justice and peace through educational programs and service/action involvement activities.”  Wow, that certainly is a mouthful!  What this means is that we would like for our students to be more involved and vested in their community outreach efforts.  Teachers will be discussing various alternatives with their classes; and students will vote on one choice that they would like to participate in/support at their grade level.

It is our hope that a student-directed discussion will result in their excitement in helping in their communities.  Students will also ponder the type of service activity that is most important to them.  As a result, students will be greater invested in their service related activities, building empathy where charity and love will prevail
