Principal's Newsletter - May 8, 2013

On Sunday, Fr. Bill O’Shea celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest. He celebrated mass at St Margaret Mary Parish, and shared a reception with friends following the mass.

Fr. Bill’s exhibits such great love for his vocation, which is most evident at All Saints when he visits the students in their classes each month. This dedication actually started 15+ years ago. Fr Bill was the priest that first went to the Bishop and pleaded the case for a new school to be built in the Naperville area. The concept of a regional school was always the design.  To that end, Fr. Bill then convinced Fr. Ernie Norbeck at St Elizabeth Seton, and Fr. Don Kenney (and eventually Fr. Joel Fortier) at St Thomas to join him in the task of starting a school. Jim McSherry was named chairman of the Naperville Regional School project. Each parish had a committee of about six members who worked tirelessly for over seven years to bring our school to reality. The journey included several years of looking for the perfect property.  After tireless negotiations, finally this building was ours; and the morning after the agreement was made, we had an early morning tour of what would become our home.  As we entered the building, Fr. Bill put out his hand to stop me from going further, saying, “Sandy look there”. Above the door to the main office were the words, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:24    Fr. Bill told me that day, that no matter what else we did, we needed to have that passage in our school.  It is prominent for us on our cornerstone, in the open bible outside the office, and on the door as we go out for recess.

So, long after Fr. Bill and all the founders are gone, our school will always have the inspiration of Matthew 19:24 to guide it.  We owe Fr. Bill so much for the very existence of our school. I am very grateful that God gave him to us to guide our journey.

Also, to everyone who made Grandparents day possible, thank you. This is always such a nice day, and I am amazed at how it has grown over the years.  From teachers to volunteers, everyone was so gracious in making this a terrific day for the guests.
