Principal's Newsletter - May 1, 2013

The handing on of our faith is a privileged and joyful task for parents, but it can seem daunting at times. That’s why this Year of Faith, which began on October 11, 2012, is such a blessing. There is much to be offered to help guide parents on this wonderful and important journey. Parenting is hard work – no two ways about it.  One event that may provide some assistance is being offered this evening. SHPP is presenting Parenting Kids in Today’s Techie World.  The internet presents one of the most wonderful tools possible for our society; yet, it is dangerous beyond imagination for our children in their naiveté. You would be very wise to take advantage of this opportunity to help guide your children. Please consider attending. It will be held from 7:00-8:30 pm in McSherry Hall.

Kindness is Spoken Here

Do you remember our work with the students to encourage the conversations to be thoughtful and kind?  In the past week, I have been informed about two conversations where a serious mistake was made (turning left onto Aurora Ave between 3:30 and 3:45 pm), and the response from other parents was pretty strong.  Please remember that the rules are in place for the safety and smooth traffic transition for all the families….and remember that we do still need to be kind to each other. They system asks that you get a license plate number and give me a call or an email. I will be happy to speak to people who are in violation of our rules.  I also remind you that this Friday we will be celebrating Grandparents Day, and will have guests on campus who may not understand our system. Please be understanding, gently help them to find a place to park, and offer assistance as they navigate the entrance into our school of 600 students. Thank you in advance for your help.

Cell Phones at School – just in case you missed it

We have a school policy requiring that students who bring cell phones to school must turn them off and check them in to the school office during school hours. This has been the rule for a number of years, and our students are apprised of it. Most students do faithfully turn their phones in; however, some continue to think it is ok to break this rule. This is primarily an issue with Junior High students.  If your child is bringing a phone to school, it must be turned in to the office before going upstairs. If we discover that your child has a phone, it will be confiscated, and not returned till the end of the school year. Please have a conversation with your child to be sure they clearly understand that this will be the consequence.  Thank you for your support.

ASCA Athletics

Please join the All Saints Athletic Association (ASAA) for a MANDATORY MEETING for parents of students entering grade 5 in the Fall of 2013, or who are new to ASCA sports (never played sports at All Saints) entering grades 6-8.

The meeting will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm in McSherry Hall at ASCA.  The deadline for registration and coaching applications is Monday, May 20, 2013.  If you are not able to attend the full meeting, but have some questions, please stop by after 8:00 pm, and the ASAA board members will be available to answer your questions.

Parents whose children have participated in ASCA sports in prior years are not required to attend, but are welcome at the meeting if they choose to attend.

The new Athletic Program handbook along with the sports registration and coach’s application forms will be reviewed at the meeting. In addition, increases to sports registration fees will be discussed.

The Sports Registration Form must be returned for ALL sports no later than Monday, May 20, 2013 to ensure participation in the 2013-2014 school year. The Coach’s Application form must also be submitted for ALL sports no later than May 20, 2013 for consideration in the 2013-2014 school year.

Completed forms and checks payable to ASCA can be returned to the school office in an envelope marked “SPORTS REGISTRATION 2013-2014”.  The Sports Registration Form, Athletic Participation Agreement Forms and Coach's Application can be found at the ASCA website.

The Sports Registration Forms and the Coach’s Application Forms are used to determine the number of teams that ASCA will be able to field for each sport at each grade level. Team sizes and the number of teams impact the cost to play for the program. Thus, it is critical that all forms be completed on time, and for all sports that your student(s) is(are) interested in participating in, or that you are willing to coach.

Please come to learn about the ASCA athletic program, and the key role that parents and volunteers play in providing our students with a thriving athletic program. All families or other interested parties are welcome to attend to learn about future volunteering and coaching opportunities as well as the fundraising activities of the ASAA.  You do not need to have a student who is playing sports at ASCA to serve as a coach.   Please contact the ASAA at asaa@ascacademy.org with any questions.

ASAA (All Saints Athletic Association) Position Available
