Principal's Newsletter - March 5, 2014

"Jesus saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him: "Follow me." And he got up and followed him." (Matthew 9:9).

As we begin our Lenten journey this year, our theme is Following Matthew: Transforming the Kingdom.  Matthew was so filled with the charisma and awe of Jesus that he left his quite prestigious job as a tax collector, and simply changed his life completely.   Honestly, Jesus says “follow me” every time we hear a Gospel.  Jesus says “follow me” every time we witness someone else doing a kind and selfless act. Jesus says “follow me” each time a child asks for help. If we could only say yes and be as faith-filled as Matthew …… let that be our prayer as we begin this first week of Lent.

The Car Line

We are revisiting the clarification of our car line procedures once again in a sincere effort to communicate the appropriate parking lot procedures for the safety of our children.

  1. Last year the Naperville Police Department  did a traffic analysis and recommended that at high exit times like AM and PM  drop-off and pick up, we restrict our exit to right turns only.  The signage indicating this went up this fall. These directions should be followed.  This change has not yet been reflected in the on-line Parent Handbook; but we will take care of that shortly.

  2. Both AM and PM we have a high volume of cars that are on the grounds in the line to reach the child safety zone.  You are to double up and once the line starts (if you don’t, vehicles will spill out onto Aurora Ave.), and then you should alternate when the line moves into a single line.

  3. Remember Door 1 is not a place where you can “drop-off”. If you go to the Door 1 lot, you must park and walk your child to and from Door 7.

  4. Cell phone usage while children are present is a dangerous thing. Please don’t do it.

ASCA Lenten Service Project

As we begin our Lenten journey today, All Saints students and their families will continue to support the Hogar del Pobre orphanage in Celaya, Mexico with almsgiving, prayer and sacrifice.  All Saints will be helping Hogar del Pobre, Mother Superior (Madre), and most importantly, the children of the orphanage with a clothing collection, as well as prayer for each of the children who are as young as newborn babies on up.  For most of the children at the orphanage, the clothing that they receive from All Saints students will be the only new outfit that they receive all year long.  In past years, All Saints families have generously been able to contribute over 700 pieces of clothing during the forty days of Lent.  We have attached a flyer to the end of this newsletter that outlines the details of the project.  The Lenten Service Project flyer will also be going home in hard copy to oldest and only students today, and be available at the school website.

All Saints has been very blessed to have had Mother Superior visit ASCA and celebrate mass with our students.  Having Madre visit All Saints, and being in the presence of someone who embodies and brings to life those children who we so want to help, is very humbling.  In looking outside of ourselves and in developing an awareness of others and their true needs, All Saints students learn and experience how it is to be Christ's loving hands and hearts when doing small things with great love!

Wednesday Rosary

Beginning this week and on all Wednesdays of Lent, the Rosary will be prayed just before Mass in the school gym.  Besides being a great way to receive additional graces and to honor Mary, our spiritual mother, it is a wonderful way to share our faith with the students as they enter for Mass.  Please join us in the gym at 7:55 am (if you are running late – come anyway!).  Instruction sheets and extra Rosaries will be available.  We ask that you honor those joined in prayer and jump right in as you enter the gym for mass.  If you wish to socialize, please remain in the narthex.    Please contact Darlene Newman at newmdar@gmail.com with any questions.

ASCA Spring Picture Day

This Friday, March 7th for all preschool through Grade 8 students.  Preschool 3 year old and Pre Kindergarten students are invited to come to ASCA to be photographed on March 8.  All students will be out of uniform and photographed by Lifetouch.  There will be no preorders or retakes if you miss the day.  A Picture Day Pose Selection Form was sent home last Wednesday with all students, and is also available at the school website.

Picture packages will be sent home with your student once ASCA has received them from Lifetouch.   At the time you receive your photo package, you will have the option to do one of the following:

  1. send the entire package back,
  2. purchase selected sheets in the package, or
  3. purchase the entire photo package.

D203 Busing Change

Please make a note on your upcoming calendars.  There will be no busing all day (to and from school) on Thursday, March 20, Friday, March 21 and Friday, March 28 for District 203 bus riders.  You will need to arrange alternate transportation for your student on these particular days.  All other buses will be running.
