Principal's Newsletter - March 13, 2013

With love and forgiveness, new beginnings are possible.

As we spend our Lent trying for new beginnings through love and forgiveness, our church is also embarking on a new beginning with a new pope. Our students have been learning about the Papacy and the processes surrounding it this past week. Some of the Junior High religion classes led by Mrs. Moore created a conclave for our students so that they could experience the selection process themselves. After learning about the possible candidates, the students voted for their choice, recited the prayer just as the Cardinals do, and threaded their vote on the string to be burned. It was quite an experience. For the students of ASCA, Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley of Boston was the choice for Pope. We do pray for the wisdom of the conclave to select the right man for the right time as we move forward in our church history.

Drivers who Enter our Campus - Please Read This
I am not sure what it will take for people to consider the safety of our children over the need to move quickly. This week, the bus company wants me to warn our families that there are parents who are ignoring the flashing lights and bus extended stop sign as the children are boarding the buses at the end of the day. Legally, drivers should be taking the offender’s license plate number, and reporting these violators to the police, which would result in a very hefty fine. So consider this as your warning, as drivers will report you from now on. There should never be cars in that drive lane at the end of the day when buses are present, so these cars and drivers are wrong on so many levels!

For two years, our School Board worked very hard on the issues of drivers on our property; and then this year, SHPP again tackled this issue. The procedures are good and they work. The problem is that, unless we have a cadre of people out there patrolling, there are some of you who park wherever you want, encourage your children to meet you in unsupervised places, disregard rules, and generally create a very unsafe situation for all of the children. Will it require that a child be harmed before some of you stop??? I pray not. So, please don’t talk on your phone while on school grounds, and take another look at what the rules are and follow them. If you send someone else to pick up your children you let them know what they must do. Sometimes these are the folks that go the wrong way, turn around in crosswalks when the kids are trying to cross, speed quickly and try to turn left out of the driveway because they do not know the system.

Dinner Dance

Our “An Evening in Paris” auction was a wonderful success and a great night for the All Saints community.  I would like to say “thank you” to a terrific team of parents, led by Chairperson, Allison Davis, who shared their time and talent to create a night to remember.  In addition, thanks to all who came out to the auction and supported our biggest fundraiser of the year.

One of the highlights of the evening was the “Home” DVD which featured all of our students and staff.  We are extremely grateful to ASCA parent, Young Shin, who created and produced this video.  Copies of the DVD are available for purchase in the Main Office for $20.

ASCA New Family Welcome Team

Do you love ASCA?  Do you have an email address?  Do you want to volunteer, but don’t have a lot of spare time? Then the New Family Welcome Team is looking for you

Over the last few years, the New Family Mentor Program has helped transition new families into the ASCA Community by matching current families with new families.  ASCA has been blessed and has grown so much, that we have decided to revamp the program to make it more efficient for all of the volunteers and new families.  We are now the New Family Welcome Team.  Our goal remains the same: to facilitate new families’ connections to one another and make them feel like they are part of ASCA.

We have been successful due to the support of our wonderful volunteers, and we still need your help!  Instead of pairing current and new families together, we will provide new families with names of people who have kindly offered to be points of contact for any questions or concerns.  All communication will be done through email (or in person if you run into them in the parking lot).  No extra time commitment is required.

We are in need of volunteers from all different grade levels.  Whether you may have been a volunteer in the past, or whether you are new to the group, we would love to have you on board. Please email ascamentor@gmail.com today for more information.  Thank you in advance for helping to make the 2013-2014 school year a success for our new families!
