Saints Speak - January 19, 2017

From Mrs. Santos

In a little over a week, we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week, the most fun week of the school year.  If you click here, you will see a copy of our calendar for the week.  Do not be overwhelmed.  There will be additional details coming that will answer any questions that you might have.

Over the next few weekends beginning this Sunday, there will be celebrations held in our sponsoring/supporting parishes of St. Elizabeth Seton, St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Margaret Mary and Holy Spirit Catholic Community.  We hope that you are planning on attending and participating in these celebrations - connecting as a school community within your parish, sharing your pride in being a Saint, and saying thank you to your parishes for their generous prayerful and financial support.  Be sure to wear your uniform or spiritwear if you do.

Then on Sunday, January 29, we will kick off Catholic Schools Week with an Open House from 1-3 pm here at ASCA.  All of our teachers will be here on this day, and there will be something interesting to see in every room.  ALL are invited, so please plan on attending!!!  There will also be a huge Knights of Columbus free throw contest on Open House day for boys and girls age 9-14.

We also will be welcoming new families who are interested in finding out more about All Saints and how they might register for the 2017-2018 school year.  If you have any friends who would like to come to ASCA, PLEASE INVITE THEM TO THE OPEN HOUSE. Most of all, share with them why you love All Saints, and why they will love All Saints too!  We know that the word of mouth and recommendations of happy current school families are the very best source of new school families.  All Saints offers classes for Preschool through Grade 8

This week, we began praying a Novena for the sick children in our Diocese  We are saying this Novena, which is derived from the Latin word "novem" which means "nine", through the 27th of January. .  A novena is nine days of devotion in the Catholic Church to obtain special graces. Our Novena is being prayed for children who are suffering from a debilitating disease.  Please keep them and all of our children in your prayers.

Martin Luther King Day of Service

All we can say is WOW!  We are so very proud of all of the people that our Saints helped during the Martin Luther King Day of Serivce.  Besides the many creative ways that families chose to spend their day of service, we had arranged the following philanthropies that families came together to support on MLK day:

The numbers are approximates.............

  • 20 at Scarce, Community Assistance and Recyclying in Glen Ellyn
  • 38 people at St. Margaret Mary Church for clean up
  • 60 people at Holy Spirit for clean up
  • 28 at ASCA making home made cards for the St. Elizabeth Seton Caring Cards minstry
  • 24 at the West Suburban Food Pantry in Woodridge
  •  36 At the Naperville Police Station making homemade Valentine's Day cards for housing residents at 360 Youth Services, which offers housing and counseling to homeless youth
  • 130 people at Feed My Starving Children food packing service

If you did not have a chance to complete service yet, you are able to do this throughout the remainder of this month.
If you took some pictures of your day, please email some to Amy Drake at amyldrake@me.com to compile and share with the students.

To receive credit for attendance on January 16th, students will be asked to identify their act(s) of service, and write a paragraph of reflection on how this service has helped others in the community and what it felt like to contribute in this way.  All students have received a copy of the form (Click here for an electronic copy). Copies will also be available in the school office.  To qualify the service can be performed any time during the month of January, 2017. Forms will be due on or before Wednesday, February 1.

Dinner Dance Auction (DDA) News

This is a big week !  Our 12th Annual Dinner Dance Auction, “A Night in Hollywood” on Saturday, March 18th is fast approaching. Donations and advertising forms are due tomorrow, Friday, January 20.

Item Donation

Please consider an item donation to this year’s auction.  You will receive fundraising credit (up to $500 for this school year) for the amount your item sells for at the auction. Best sellers are: vacation getaways, concert and theater tickets, sporting event tickets, airline miles, and hotel points.  The attached form and item donations are due tomorrow, Firiday, January 20th.

Saintly Spot Ad

A terrific way to celebrate your child’s Graduation, First Communion, or School Musical is with a Saintly Spot Ad in the auction catalog.  Is your child part of an ASCA sports team, Brownie, or Girl Scout Troop?  Place a photo ad in the catalog!  Multiple families can participate together.  The ad costs $50. Please see the attached form for more details.  The deadline for submission is  tomorrow, Friday, January 20th.

Sponsor and Advertising Opportunities

More than 300 parents and members of Naperville and the surrounding communities are expected to attend our annual Dinner Dance Auction.  Do you own a business, or know someone that owns a business, that could benefit from getting their company name in front of this excellent target market?  It pays to advertise!  Please consider becoming a Sponsor or an Advertiser - it can benefit both your company and our school!  See the Sponsor and Advertising opportunities.

Sponsors and advertisers receive recognition via professional posters and screen displays at the event, an ad in the auction catalog, your name and link to your business on the school website, and your name highlighted in a letter that goes home to school families asking them to patronize our generous supporters.

New this year is an opportunity for year round advertising exposure! As a Blue and Gold Sponsor, at a commitment level of $1,000 or above, your name and logo will be on a professionally made banner that will be hung in the gym all year. The banner will be seen not only by All Saints families attending sporting events, but also families of the visiting schools. The banner will also be seen by anyone who attends other functions, such as Grandparents Day, in the gym throughout the year!

Support All Saints and promote your business at the same time!  The deadline for commitments is  tomorrow, Friday, January 20th. For questions regarding sponsorship or advertising, please contact Michelle Yacullo at yacullo@sbcglobal.net.
