Principal's Newsletter - February 27, 2013

With love and forgiveness, new beginnings are possible.

We are in the middle of our Lenten time now, and it is easy to forget our resolve to bring ourselves to the best relationship with God.  This time always reminds me of when Jesus was in the garden at Gethsemane, and the apostles were to wait for his return. They all fell asleep even though they did not want to.  This is the time that would be easy for us to “fall asleep” even though we don’t want to. So in the words of the song that is an ASCA favorite, “Stay awake, be ready”.

New Family Mentor Program

The New Family Welcome Team is looking for some friendly faces!  Over the years, this committee has successfully helped new families transition into the ASCA Community by matching veteran families with new families.  Members of the team answer questions and lend a hand as needed.  Now, given the current size of our school, we have decided to revamp our program to meet the needs of our current community.  Our focus still remains to help facilitate our new families’ connection with one another, and to make everyone feel welcomed.  But we no longer feel it is necessary to pair families together.  Instead, we wish to model this committee similar to our Student Ambassador Program.  The Student Ambassador Program has had great success over this past year allowing current students to reach out to our new students in a casual way but on a daily basis. Our hope is that we can take our children's lead and do the same for the parents.

When each of us attends an ASCA function throughout the year, please make an effort to approach the new faces/families and introduce yourself, be willing to offer advice if they ask, or help connect them to a staff member who can assist them.  Building this parent ambassador program will truly strengthen our community for all of us.

If you would like to play a larger role on our team, we are looking for a few servant leaders to assist us.  We are in need of a few representatives from each academy to help us address personal questions should they arise from our new families.  Please know all help will only be done via email.  No extra time commitment will be required.

Please email ascamentor@gmail.com today for more information and to pledge your interest in helping to make the 2013-2014 school year a success for our new families!  We thank you in advance for your consideration.

February Men's Tie Collection

ASCA is collecting men's ties through the month of February to benefit our Earth and others.  SCARCE will be creating Christmas tree skirts out of the collected ties as an example of reuse.  The ties will also benefit a Men's Closet in which men will be able to find professional clothes to wear for interviews and jobs. Help us help others and the Earth by sending in your gently used ties with your child to be put in our drop box in the office.   Please direct any questions to kristinscrima@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance for your help!
