Saints Speak - February 16, 2017

From Mrs. Santos

I have been talking to our students about responsibility, our virtue focus for this week; and in particular, accepting personal responsibility for their actions – which is taking ownership of their own behavior and the consequences of that behavior.  I have explained to our children that we all make mistakes.  We sometimes make poor choices.  The same goes for when we fail to act when we know we should.

When any of us are not willing to accept culpability for our behavior, and are all too willing to deflect any blame or fault on others, there can be no growth or learning from the experience.  In the acceptance of personal responsibility, there is a realization that one has fallen short.

The questions that then follow become:

  1. Am I sorry for what I did or did not do?  Is there a sincere feeling of regret or remorse for what has happened and any role that one may have played in the situation?
  2. What can I do or change in my behavior to not end up in this same situation again? While I can not change anyone else's behavior, I certainly can be self aware and in control of how I act or react.

Oftentimes, the avoidance of personal responsibility is worse than the actual act itself that one is looking to avoid responsibility for.  The way in which a person learns how to accept personal responsibility can be very humbling, and a sign of a person's character and the type of person that they are, and are becoming.  We all need to encourage our students towards personal responsibility as they grow and develop into young men and women of good character.

All Saints Parent Satisfaction Survey

It is important to our school for us to gain an understanding of how our school families are feeling about ASCA.  A number of families have contacted Mrs. Santos to ask whether they should take the survey.  The answer to that question is an emphatic YES!!! Your participation will help us to find out what we are doing well, as well as areas where we could improve.

Mrs. Santos will share the results of the survey with you. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity and moment in time to share your thoughts with us.   At this time, the diocese has informed us that less than 20% of our school parents have taken the survey.

Please click the link below to access the survey.  Parents have until Monday, February 27, 2017 to take the survey. This holiday weekend might afford you a little bit of time to log in and complete the survey.  It should take you no more than 10 minutes from beginning to end at the following link:
