Principal's Newsletter - December 4, 2013

Preparing to Make Christ’s Story Our Story.   As we begin this Advent season, first think that Jesus Christ was born an infant like your children; helpless, in need of nurturing and guidance through his toddler years, molded by the words and actions of his parents. All very much like your family. What he became was formed of course by God, but it was also from his earthly family.  We can make Christ’s story ours. We have the tools. Fr Paul spoke this weekend about what we need to do to prepare for Christ to be in our lives. He spoke of how the church gives us the framework and how prayers bring us to the sense of gratitude and other-centeredness necessary for us to be Christ-like. This Advent we can make Christ’s story our story.

Christmas Caroling

It's time to tune up your holiday voices and join us in singing some Christmas cheer!  We will be Christmas caroling at Spring Meadows Retirement Community on Friday, December 13th at 4pm. All children are welcome to attend, but must be accompanied by their own parent. Space is limited, so sign up early by contacting Gretchen Muller at bandgmuller@comcast.net. For questions, please contact Bridget Roe at roeyerboat@yahoo.com. The Christmas Caroling flyer is going home with all oldest and only students today, and is also available at the school website.

Advent Rosary

During Advent, we will be praying the Rosary on Wednesday mornings at 7:50 am in the school gym.  The lights will be low to enhance our prayer experience.    Please come, even if you are running late.  It is so wonderful for our students who are processing into the gym for mass to hear our school community joined in this beautiful and powerful prayer.  Instruction sheets and extra Rosaries are available.  Younger children are always welcome!  Please contact Darlene Newman at newmdar@gmail.com with any questions.

Calling All Bakers! We need cookies and lots of them!

It is that time of year again! The Christmas Cookie event for the ASCA teachers and staff will take place on Wednesday, December 11th. We will be filling boxes with homemade Christmas cookies for our teachers and staff to take home and enjoy with their families. With over 60 recipients, we are in need of many volunteers to bake cookies. We are encouraging anyone who loves to stir, blend, sift or roll, to fire up your oven and bake something wonderful!

If you would like to help us by baking a few dozen cookies, please email either Paula DeRuntz at pderuntz@wowway.com or Mili Jain at mili_anand@hotmail.com. Please specify what kind and how many dozen cookies you will make. We will be collecting cookies in Café 1 on Tuesday, December 10th at pick up (3:00 - 3:45), and Wednesday morning, December 11th at drop off. Because of allergy concerns, we ask that cookies are nut free. Thanks in advance for your help! We cannot do this without your support! The teachers and staff appreciate and look forward to these treats!

Don’t Forget!  Santa Claus is Coming to Town!!!

Healthy Tips from Mrs. Loscheider

What happens if we try and fail?  Is it a teachable moment for our children?  If we don't allow our children to fail, it limits their ability to adapt in other life situations.  Allow safe situations where your child can try something new.  If they stumble, they will learn how to cope and, ultimately grow.  Be there to support them, but let them have a chance to work it out.  Disappointment comes in life.  It is how we work thru it that makes us stronger and more confident to explore life.  And it allows us to truly cherish our successes.
