Preparing to Make Christ’s Story Our Story

We made the trip to Macy’s to see Santa during the Thanksgiving break. We piled in the car, and put the ‘Christmas station’, 93.9 FM on the radio; and, no surprise, we sang every Christmas Carol known to man for the 18 mile trip into the city. It is amazing every year how we know every word.....the familiar tunes, the alliteration of the lyrics and the beautiful stories being told that make it feel so natural and right (well, leave Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer out of that statement!).  For the most part, these songs are heralds of Christ's story, and we have them printed on our hearts and in our minds. Singing these beautiful carols is a way to make Christ's story our story. Celebrate with Joy!

Let’s make our parties fun and safe

Some of our classes have requested to have food at their Christmas parties this year.  Many are not; however, if you are having food it MUST BE FROM THE APPROVED SNACK LIST ONLY (the approved snack list can be found at the school website, and is also in the ASCA Parent Student Handbook).  If you are the designated shopper for the class, we need you to bring the approved snack list items that you purchase directly to school after you shop.  The reason for our concern is that there is always the possibility of package contamination if someone has peanut butter or nut residue on a home countertop or on hands as the packaging is handled.  Planning your shopping excursion just before you come to ASCA, and dropping it off ahead of time would help to ensure that the food has not been compromised.

Also on occasion, well-meaning parents have sent candy canes or M&M’s to school in a sealed package, telling students to “take it home before you open it”, believing that this is ok. I am afraid that this practice cannot be allowed.  We are talking about children, and it is truly unreasonable of us to expect that we can ensure 100% compliance.  As an alternative, we ask that you select a non-food item such as pencils, erasers, etc. if you wish to send in a treat.  These parties absolutely can be fun and safe with your cooperation.  Thank you for understanding.

“Future Fund” Is About Maintaining Our Core Values

At www.WeTeachMore.com, the Diocese of Joliet reminds us of the core elements we value so deeply in our Catholic schools.  This is who we are and why we are here, and ASCA Future Fund helps us keep our core values alive.

1. Incorporating Faith into the Classroom and into every aspect of our curriculum, reinforcing to students that their personal faith, centered on the Eucharist and the sacraments, remains ever relevant.

2. Balancing Challenging Courses with a Nurturing Environment, recognizing that each child is unique and ever‐deserving of individualized attention and one-on‐one focus.

3. Collaborating with Families, with our teachers and school leadership doing their best to maintain proactive, candid and open communication with each student’s family.

4. Holding Each Other to a Higher Standard of professionalism, morals and ethics, as we are inspired by the Gospel.

5. Looking Ahead with constant focus on technology, new ideas and best practices.

Healthy Tips from Mrs. Loscheider

Shoes are not just to cover funny shaped toes.  Many years ago when you purchased new shoes, there was a salesperson who first measured your foot’s width and length, and then made recommendations based on your foot and shoe needs.  Now it is up to the consumer.  As you shop for children's shoes, please make sure they are supportive and able to withstand the rigors of your child’s life.  Don’t be swayed by cost or by looks.  Many shoes may end up causing more harm than good.  We most of all want your child to be comfortable in their own shoes, and do not want them to have to visit the health office because they have rolled an ankle at recess, or are experiencing foot pain.
